PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:


Under the Shift Supervisor’s direction, monitor the overall safety, set up, quality and operations of all production areas. Actively participate in communicating and coordinating production scheduling changes or information to team members. Support production across all departments with a focus on reducing set‑up times, improving troubleshooting skills, and facilitating effective and seamless communication and transitions from one shift to the next.


SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITY:



  • Consistently model Safety-centric behaviors, actively participate in safety programs and activities and promote safety engagement amongst team members; partner with Safety Manager to ensure all workplace and product safety training is completed in a timely manner

  • Review and discuss schedule, staffing, production and run status with Shift Supervisor and or departmental leads and/or manager of prior shift to ensure understanding of production schedule and customer needs

  • Actively communicate with operators at beginning of the shift to review and confirm understanding of production schedule and job requirements; promote positive employee relations and interdepartmental communication and collaboration

  • Monitor and engage with operators when necessary to oversee and approve proper and timely set up of make readies and adherence with estimated run speeds

  • Support operators with any production problems that arise; assist with troubleshooting and resolution of issues and assist in repair of machine malfunctions when necessary

  • Monitor and direct the overall quality of jobs, ensure quality checks are being performed in accordance with SCT Quality procedures and customer specifications; provide the required approvals for jobs in Supervisors’ absence

  • Coordinates activities for new temporary team members including performing safety orientation, onboarding activities, and job training

  • Participates in onboarding new team members, orientation activities and monitoring job training

  • Coordinate and oversee break schedules in accordance with production schedule; operate machines through lunch breaks to maximize efficiencies and minimize down time

  • Review daily production reports with Supervisor including time gained and lost; review with team members to create awareness and drive improvements;actively seek to identify issues or opportunities impacting optimal operational efficiency and work with operators and/or Supervisor to improve

  • Ensure operators maintain a clean work environment including the machine, floors, desks, and fans; assist operators with routine cleaning and maintenance including handling and stacking of product when needed

  • Assist with making machine adjustments when necessary in order to maintain machines at safety, quality, and production standards

  • Cover various job responsibilities when team members are absent or on vacation including operating machines, case sealing, shipping, etc.

  • Monitor status of communication boards and actively work to address and help resolve any outstanding issues in a timely fashion

  • Ensure operators have the necessary equipment and tools assigned to the machine, and notify the supervisor of any tools that would add to the efficiency and safety of the operation

  • Actively respond and report all workplace safety incidents when they occur and assist Safety Manager with investigations for the department ensuring prompt action is taken

  • Effectively utilize any machine downtime (not including approved breaks) by coordinating and assisting with other duties and tasks


AUTHORITY:Must have the ability to lead a crew to execute the demands of production departments efficiently and to respond to oral instructions from his/her supervisor and other written instructions


QUALIFICATIONS


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Minimum of 5 years of progressive production and operations experience including operation of various production machinery (print, die cutting, finishing/gluing, etc); Folding carton industry experience and experience leading or supervising others is strongly preferred; Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus. Must have basic computer skills and possess ability to utilize software. Must have mechanical ability and skills.


LANGUAGE SKILLS:Must have the ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc. and write legibly in English. Must be able to understand and speak clearly, communicate, and understand directions in English as needed.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide both fractions and decimals, solve equations, read a tape measure, and have an understanding of both standard and metric measuring systems.


CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:Must become a Certified Fork Lift operator in accordance with SCT training and carry a copy of your certification with you.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:While performing the duties of this job, regularly required to walk, stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with arms and hands. Frequently is required to climb, balance, twist, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Frequently must lift/move 25 to 50 pounds. Must be able to perform these functions for a minimum of 8 hours straight (with a 30-minute meal break any other applicable breaks during his/her shift) on a regular basis. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Team member successfully performing the essential functions of this job. Regular attendance and reporting for work on time are necessary requirements as is availability for overtime work if necessary.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:Exposure to a dusty atmosphere with loud noise, which may require both eye and ear protection in some areas. Moving mechanical parts will also be exposed; safety guards have been put in place for the safety of all Team members but during set up, if a machine must be broken down and reassembled to complete the next job, questions regarding such operation should be directed to your supervisor as they arise.
