Project Overview

Bechtel’s Manufacturing and Technology (M&T) Business Unit is designing, building, and commissioning a semiconductor fab in Clay, NY. M&T serves customers in the semiconductor, datacenter, life sciences, and electric vehicle markets.

Job Summary

In this role, you will coordinate and update survey strategy, provide technical support for laser scanning and meteorology surveys, and oversee survey computer‑aided design (CAD) drawings, instrument calibration, subcontractor survey work, and project drone operations. Your recommendations will ensure drone flight safety and high‑quality, accurate work delivered within schedule and budget.

Major Responsibilities
  • Supports the survey team’s implementation of the project safety, quality, and environmental programs.
  • Provides technical support as related to survey to Field Engineering and Superintendents in a wide range of situations and configurations.
  • Establishes and/or verifies and maintains the project’s survey control network.
  • Reviews survey contractor’s reports and prepares comments and recommendations.
  • Provides oversight of the preparation of survey CAD drawings, including generation of Digital Terrain Models (DTM) and volume computations for quantity tracking verification.
  • Works with field engineering to support field verification of materials as appropriate and needed.
  • Provides laser scanning support to Construction and Project Management.
  • Ensures accurate recordation of field data according to job specifications.
  • Provides metrology survey support to Construction and Project Management.
  • Coordinates all metrology work requirements with Field Engineering, supervision, pipe fitting personnel, and welding personnel.
Education And Experience Requirements

Requires bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 8‑10 years of relevant experience or 12‑14 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge And Skills
  • Knowledge of engineering and construction methods and processes customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel’s “Zero Incidents” safety program and a strong drive toward safety.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel quality standards.
  • Solid record of successful project completion with little to zero rework.
  • Knowledge of heavy industrial construction survey principles.
  • Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to heavy industrial construction surveying field & office activities.
  • Effective communication skills crucial for motivating team members and presenting plans.
  • Ability to work in a team‑based environment and collaborate with survey team members, other departments, and contractors.
  • Advanced proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Excellent problem‑solving ability.
  • Proficiency with Survey CAD software (e.g., Trimble Business Center, Leica Infinity, AutoCAD Civil 3D), construction layout computations, and drafting of as‑staked/as‑built data.
  • Proficiency with transferring data to and from field data controllers.
  • Experience managing teams on multiple work fronts and under time constraints; adaptability to changing conditions.
  • Physical capability to participate in project walkdowns, including walking, climbing ladders/scaffolding, and lifting up to 40 lbs without assistance.
