Job summary

Position Summary

Coordinate peer note taker and assistive technology accommodation provision for qualified students with disabilities. Provide support for general office management as needed, including clerical and web content work.

  • Manage student requests for Peer Note Taker accommodations; identify, prepare, and monitor volunteer Peer Note Takers.
  • Coordinate communication between DRC and Technology Solutions to support the check-out of Assistive Technology (AT) software and hardware.
  • Support with clerical functions of the office, including but not limited to answering phones, scheduling student appointments and updating content on website.
  • Conduct research on national trends and best practices for note taking supports, including maintaining knowledge of newest technology solutions to support lecture capture, speech-to-text and text-to-speech technology.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Any one or combination totaling eighteen (18) months from the categories below:
    • College coursework in any curriculum as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
      • 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
      • Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
    • Work experience performing office/clerical activities, including the use of computer systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Section 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 and the Illinois Information Technology Accessibility Act.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; analytical, organizational and Microsoft Office skills.
  • At least one year of experience working with learners with disabilities.
  • Understanding of the role of assistive technology in disability services.
  • Fluency with cloud-based information management systems such as Google Sheets and Box.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to multi-task and perform in a high paced environment. Ability to professionally handle feedback and complaints.
