Job summary

Baptist Health’s BHMG Neurosurgery in Paducah seeks a Medical Assistant to provide direct patient care and clinical support in an outpatient setting. You will handle vital signs, patient histories, med reconciliation, and coordinate tests and procedures, with on-site duties and potential for EKGs or phlebotomy after competency.

Responsibilities include EPIC EMR management, appointment scheduling, and prior authorizations, with strong communication and organization essential to support providers

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED with 1+ year MA experience in a medical setting.
• Hands-on patient care including vital signs, histories, medications, and basic procedures.
• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program with hands-on patient experience.
• Clinical competency assessment on hire; MA orientation required; trainee program if standards unmet.
• Basic computer skills; EMR experience preferred.
• BLS from American Heart Association within 90 days of hire.
• BAT and DOT certifications within 90 days of hire.
• Preferred CMA certification or RN/LPN licensure.

Responsibilities

• Obtain vital signs and patient history; document in chart.
• Support operations by managing EPIC EHR, scheduling, and medication requests.
• Process prior authorizations and coordinate tests and procedures.
• After competency, may perform EKGs, phlebotomy, injections or other procedures.
• Assist providers and ensure patient flow and care coordination.

Summary Job Description: BHMG Neurosurgery - Paducah (Travel required based on business needs - see below) Retention bonus! Job Summary: The Medical Assistant provides direct patient care and clinical support within an outpatient clinic. Responsibilities include obtaining vital signs, reconciling medications, collecting patient history, and facilitating patient flow. Additional duties involve managing the electronic health record (EPIC), scheduling appointments, processing medication requests, handling prior authorizations, and coordinating tests and procedures. Upon successful completion of clinical competency, the role may also require performing EKGs, lab tests, injections, and/or phlebotomy. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential to ensure efficient patient care and support for providers. This role requires regular on-site presence to perform the essential job functions.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or General Education Equivalency 1+ year(s) of experience as a Medical Assistant in a medical office, clinic or similar setting required.
• Experience must include direct, hands‑on patient care in a clinical setting, such as obtaining vital signs, documenting patient history and medications, and performing clinical procedures (e.g. EKG’s, phlebotomy, administering injections or vaccines).
• Or Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant training program, that includes hands on patient experience as part of the curriculum, required.
• Upon hire, all Medical Assistants will undergo a clinical competency assessment and must successfully complete MA orientation. Those who do not meet the required standards will be enrolled in the Medical Assistant Trainee Program for further development and evaluation.
• Basic computer skills, experience with EMR System a plus.
• Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association within 90 days of hire.
• BAT and DOT certifications required for Medical Assistants in Occupational Medicine within 90 days of hire.
• Preferred Qualifications for a Certified Medical Assistant: Current Medical Assistant Certification from AAMA, AMT, NAHP, NCCT, or AAMP.

Travel Requirements:

Travel may be required for this position based on staffing and operational needs. Travel frequency may increase or decrease based on business needs. Flexibility to travel as needed to support clinic operations and patient care needs is required.
