The Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) provides services used by nearly every citizen of the state. Colorado citizens utilize identification, driver, and vehicle services at state and county offices to obtain identification cards, driver licenses, vehicle registrations, titles, and other related services. The DMV licenses and oversees private businesses and government organizations that provide driver and emission testing services. The division works with other state agencies to provide information and education to serve the public and encourage voluntary compliance.

Position

Driver License Office Manager Duties:

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversees the daily operations of the Driver License Office (DLO), ensuring compliance and proper reporting to leadership.
  • Develops new performance plans and conducts yearly, quarterly, mid-year, and final employee performance evaluations; discusses performance matters and prepares documentation.
  • Adjusts resources and personnel as needed for maximum effectiveness.
  • Handles and resolves customer complaints.
  • Processes complicated or more difficult applications.
  • Serves as floor lead, relieving employees for breaks; monitors workflow and employee schedules.
  • Performs accounting duties such as daily deposits, reconciling cash/credit card receipts, verification of funds, and employee cashiering.
  • Performs all functions of line staff, including issuing documents, when business dictates.
  • May stand for long periods and may be required to travel to another DLO to assist with daily operations.

Residency and Classification

Class Code & Classification Description: Technician V (H4M5XX)

Minimum Qualifications

Experience Only: Five (5) years of relevant experience in a public-facing customer service supervisor or managerial role including staff supervision and performance management.

OR

Education and Experience: A combination of related education in Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, Human Resources or a similar field and/or relevant experience in a public-facing customer service supervisor or managerial role to include staff supervision and performance management, equal to five (5) years. Document this experience in your application in detail, as it will not be inferred or assumed.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Additional years of direct supervisory experience leading a workforce interacting with the general public
  • Additional years of department management experience, establishing performance goals and evaluating workforce performance
  • Experience in a regulatory environment or technical customer service workplace serving the general public
  • Intermediate to advanced computer and data entry and reporting skills, and proficiency with Google Suite
  • Experience managing a retail store or business including overseeing staff scheduling, cash handling, and opening and closing the location
  • Excellent customer service skills including de-escalation techniques and well developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Driver License Fundamentals (DLF) Certified
Driver License Systems Fundamentals Certification (DLF) Requirement

Newly hired Office Manager will receive Driver License Fundamentals (DLF) training with regular DLF skill evaluations. Before completing one year in this position, the Technician V will complete the DLF Certification assessment; a written and practical examination. Employees are required to achieve a combined average of 90% between the practical and written portions to receive the minimum passing grade and earn DLF Certification.

Failure to achieve DLF Certification during the first year may result in removal from the position and possible termination of employment.
