Job description

Herberger Construction Company, Inc. is primarily a heavy highway construction company based in Indianola, Iowa. Our primary focus is bridge construction, but we also drive piling and construct flood and retaining walls, pump stations, and culverts. Herberger Construction received an AGC award from a committee of peers, based on quality of work, job particulars, budget, and other criteria.

Like a road’s base installation, Herberger Construction employees form the foundation of our business.

We are a 3rd generation company that has been in business in Iowa for over 60 years. While we primarily operate in central Iowa, we have built bridges in all 99 Iowa counties and completed a bridge in Lawrence, Kansas in 2009.

Herberger Construction Company, Inc. is urgently seeking an Office Manager (with emphasis on accounting) as well as weekly payroll processing. Areas of focus for this role are benefits administration, employee relations, policy/procedure development, and accounting functions. This position will answer routine questions and serve as a resource for employees and managers.

You will be successful in this position if you consider yourself a master multi-tasker with excellent communication skills. A positive, go-getter attitude is also a plus!

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.

Office Management
  • Handling office tasks, such as filing, sending/receiving faxes, scheduling appointments, and setting up meetings.
Accounting
  • Weekly payroll entry and paycheck processing using ComputerEase accounting system.
  • Maintain personnel and payroll files, including benefits, deductions, garnishments, etc.
  • Maintains records and reports.
  • Responsible for all payroll tax processing, bi-weekly, monthly, and quarterly reporting.
  • Data entry of vendor invoices after matching with purchase orders.
  • Generates checks to pay bills in a timely manner.
  • Process daily bank deposit.
  • Works with customers to collect overdue accounts.
  • Monthly sales and use tax reporting and filing.
  • Reconciliation of company credit card statements.
  • Performs year-end closing including generation of 1099’s, W-2’s, etc.
  • Works closely with the company’s outside accountants to provide information for corporate tax preparation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Knowledge of related accounting software.
  • Associate degree in related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation/communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Windows environment. Must include knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Accounting / Office Manager experience: 2 years.

SCHEDULE:
  • Monday – Friday typically 8:00am to 5:00pm, depending on needs and workload.
