Job summary

HDR, Inc. is hiring an Office Engineer / Resident Project Representative in the New York area. You will read and interpret drawings, track daily activities, review materials for compliance and develop pay estimates.

You will lead progress meetings and supervise junior staff while maintaining meticulous project records. Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor’s in Engineering or Construction, 5+ years of multidisciplinary construction experience, and familiarity with contracts, codes, and schedules.

Qualifications

• Must have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Technology, or a related field; combination of education and experience also considered.
• Minimum of 5 years progressive construction experience on multidisciplinary projects.
• Fundamental understanding of contracts and familiarity with codes and laws governing construction.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications and identify discrepancies or conflicts within documents.

Responsibilities

• Assist with project audit/closeout.
• Work under supervision of a Design Project Manager.
• Supervise junior Resident Project Representatives and inspectors.

Office Engineer / Resident Project Representative

We'll count on you to:

• Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, and identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documents
• Maintain accurate daily records of the contractor's daily activities and the work performed, and of the labor, equipment and materials used
• Review construction materials for Contract compliance
• Track quantities and develop pay estimates for acceptance
• Attend and/or chair construction progress meetings
• Conduct observations of the installation and acceptance testing of completed equipment and systems
• Identify nonconforming work, develop project punchlists and maintain until corrected
• Develop record documentation for engineer review/acceptance
• Assist with project audit/closeout
• Work under general supervision of a Design Project Manager
• Supervise and direct the activities of junior Resident Project Representatives and Construction Inspectors, testing services and subconsultants

Preferred Qualifications

• E.I.T. or Professional Engineer (PE) license desirable
• Certified Construction Manager (CMM) certification is recommended
• Candidates hired without their PE will have the title of Resident Project Representative
• 2 or more years of New York City Transit experience

• Local candidates to NYC area able to work within the 5 NY Boroughs

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Technology, or combination of education and relevant experience

• Must have a fundamental understanding of contracts and familiarity with codes and laws governing construction
• Must possess the ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications and identify discrepancies or conflicts within documents
• Must be able to work in a team environment
• Must be computer literate, experience with Microsoft Office, Primavera, or related construction packages
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
• An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
• Sponsorship (visa) for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position
