Job summary

WSP USA is seeking an Office Engineer for our New York, NY office to support project administration, reporting, and coordination across disciplines. The role involves reviewing schedules, payments, change orders, and submittals, with emphasis on safety and regulatory compliance.

The candidate will attend meetings, prepare documentation, and ensure accurate record-keeping and field document control. Strong communication and engineering background required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 7 years of experience in an Office Engineer or similar role.
  • Ability to read plans/specs and prepare written contract administration documentation.
  • Advise senior staff of potential change orders, differing field conditions and overruns.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding workplace safety and adhere to policies.

Responsibilities

  • Manage project administration, record keeping, payment entries, correspondence, and required reports.
  • Attend project meetings and record/distribute minutes.
  • Review baseline schedules; identify risks and coordinate corrective actions with the client.
  • Review daily inspection reports and payment quantities per contract.
  • Verify contractor pay applications and documentation prior to client approval.
  • Review change orders for overruns and additional work.
  • Coordinate with the Designer of Record on submittals, RFIs and shop drawings to ensure current construction documents.
  • Confirm inspector reports align with plans and as-built figures.
  • Coordinate QA/QC testing schedules and field/lab reports.
  • Coordinate client and third-party inspections and system commissioning.
  • Assist with punch lists and project closeouts; support final inspections.
  • Monitor compliance with Safety Plans and OSHA requirements; promote safety culture.
  • Ensure permits and AHJs regulations are followed.

Job Description

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Office Engineer out of our New York, New York office. Be part of a dynamic, national professional construction management organization, that continues to foster careers, while expanding our client base throughout New York area.

Your Impact
  • Responsible for project administration, record keeping, payment entries, correspondence, and delivering of required reports.
  • Attend project meetings, record and distribute meetings minutes.
  • Review and monitor the Contractor’s baseline schedule and periodic updates; identify risks and coordinate corrective actions with the client.
  • Review daily inspection reports and payment quantities in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Review and verify contractor pay applications, quantities, and supporting documentation prior to client approval.
  • Review change orders for overruns, changed conditions and additional work.
  • Review, log and coordinate with the Designer of Record (DOR) to respond to Contractor's submittals, RFIs and shop drawings. Ensure that field staff have current construction documents.
  • Confirm inspector reports are accurate and reflect plans, proposals and specifications and confirm as-built sketches, quantity calculations and tracking of manpower/resources is accurate.
  • Coordinate quality control/quality assurance testing subcontractor's schedules and log field/lab reports.
  • Coordinate Client and third-party inspections of partial and as-built deliverables, including commissioning of civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and control systems.
  • Assist with developing punch lists and support project closeouts, final inspections, and acceptance.
  • Monitor contractor compliance with approved Safety and Health Plans, site‑specific safety plans, and OSHA requirements.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and immediately address unsafe conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with construction and environmental permits, and applicable regulations of the Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), including the Client, Local, State, and Federal agencies.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or relevant field or equivalent experience
  • 7 years of experience serving in an Office Engineer, Construction Inspector or similar role
  • Ability to read plans/specs and prepare written contract administration documentation
  • Advise senior staff of potential change orders, differing field conditions and overruns.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding workplace safety and adhere to WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency with standard construction documentation and reporting tools (Microsoft Office, Primavera 6, Procore).
  • Safety training (roadway, highway, OSHA 10-hour, etc.)

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $156,000- $187,200
