Job summary

HDR is seeking an Office Engineer to join our Construction Services team in the Hudson Valley region, including Ulster County and Grahamsville, NY. You will read drawings, track quantities, prepare pay estimates, and participate in progress meetings, ensuring contract compliance and accurate field records.

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive construction experience on multidisciplinary projects.
  • Fundamental understanding of contracts; familiarity with codes and laws governing construction.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specs and spot discrepancies.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Proficient computer skills; experience with Microsoft Office, Primavera, or related software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to employee-owned culture.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications; identify discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate daily records of contractor activities, labor, equipment, and materials.
  • Review construction materials for contract compliance.
  • Track quantities and develop pay estimates for acceptance.
  • Attend and/or chair construction progress meetings.
  • Conduct observations of installation and acceptance testing of equipment and systems.
  • Identify nonconforming work and manage punch lists.
  • Develop record documentation for engineer review/acceptance.
  • Assist with project audits/closeout.
  • Work under supervision of a Design Project Manager.
  • Supervise junior Resident Project Representatives, Construction Inspectors, testing services, and subconsultants.

HDR is seeking Water experienced construction professionals across the Hudson Valley and lower Catskills area to join our growing Construction Services team. Seeking experienced professionals with NYCDEP or local Water Municipality project experience to work in Ulster County. Transportation experience will also be considered.

**** Must be willing to work onsite in Ulster County near Ashokan Reservoir in the Town of Olivebridge as well as Rondout Reservoir in Grahamsville, NY. ****

In the role of Office Engineer, we’ll count on you to:

  • Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, and identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documents
  • Maintain accurate daily records of the contractor’s daily activities and the work performed, and of the labor, equipment and materials used
  • Review construction materials for Contract compliance
  • Track quantities and develop pay estimates for acceptance
  • Attend and/or chair construction progress meetings
  • Conduct observations of the installation and acceptance testing of completed equipment and systems
  • Identify nonconforming work, develop project punchlists and maintain until corrected
  • Develop record documentation for engineer review/acceptance
  • Assist with project audit/closeout
  • Work under general supervision of a Design Project Manager
  • Supervise and direct the activities of junior Resident Project Representatives and Construction Inspectors, testing services and subconsultants
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Certified Construction Manager (CCM) certification
  • Ability to interpret construction schedules
  • Ability to problem solve and provide possible solutions to the engineer
