Overview

POSITION TITLE Office Cashier
DEPARTMENT Grocery Department
REPORTS TO Store Manager
FUNCTION: The Office cashier supervises the cashiers and controls cash, coupons, food stamps and other forms of payment by customers. They assist in controlling and reporting absenteeism, maximize production, and maintain organization and cleanliness on the front-end. The office cashier also trains cashiers, office personnel and is responsible for the balancing and security of all customer receipts. The office cashier is to perform all front end and clerical functions. Responsible for security and proper administration of cash office funds.

Responsibilities

• Operate front end and oversee cashiers to ensure accurate cash handling and customer service.
• Complete cash and sales reports daily, and weekly recap.
• Handle cash in the cash drawer and safe; issue, collect and verify cash tills from cashiers.
• Prepare deposits and record data; inform the manager when deposits are ready for bank transfer and notify the corporate office if a deposit was not taken to be deposited for that day.
• Answer, screen and route telephone calls.
• Notify the manager and General Store Manager of situations requiring disciplinary actions or potentially requiring such actions.
• Extend invoices and verify totals in cost and retail extensions.
• Maintain accurate monthly company records and reports on a timely basis.
• Assist in training programs for new associates and for current associates.
• Promote customer goodwill by providing high standards of customer service.
• Assist customers with returned merchandise, overrings and over charges.
• Handle cash pickups as required by company policy.
• Enforce store policy as it relates to front-end operations; remain observant.
• Demonstrate working knowledge of accounting/bookkeeping procedures.
• Display good interpersonal skills and possess a mature personality with leadership ability.
• Maintain a typical workday of 8–10 hours; some days may exceed or vary as needed.
• Give verbal and written instructions as required.
• Detail oriented with training ability; read and write; perform arithmetic (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
• Operate a cash register and checkout belt; process cash checks and balance tills; authorize credits, checks, refunds and over rings for cashiers as outlined.
• Stock and maintain product displays; direct and assign duties to cashiers; reach and stock product up to 6 feet high.
• Communicate verbally with customers; operate intercoms, phones, money order and adding machines, safes, food stamp and credit card equipment.
• Give change to cashiers and customers properly; manage receipts and balance within prescribed limits.
• Perform sweeping and general cleaning duties around the work area.
• Stock candy and other products on shelves and in racks.
• Stock and maintain Deal’s product display areas, basket displays, and dump bin areas on a daily basis.
