The Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions, is recruiting for an Office Assistant 1 position at the Anchorage Correctional Center (ACC) in Anchorage, Alaska.

This position is part of administrative team to include front desk reception, security post, mail and cashier duties for the Anchorage Correctional Complex. Responsibilities include operating a multi-line telephone system, screening and assisting visitors, handling cash transactions, balancing and reconciling a till, distributing and screening incoming mail, and providing general office support.

This entry-level position also provides opportunities for professional growth and advancement to Office Assistant 2 and Office Assistant 3 positions. The regular work schedule is Monday through Friday, 0800-1630, providing a consistent weekday schedule.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:

This is a combined correctional complex that is an intake facility, holding felons, misdemeanants, sentenced, and unsentenced prisoners with 300 plus staff and 1,000 plus inmates. The reception areas are in the lobby of both buildings in the Anchorage Correctional Complex, experiencing a lot of traffic with the public, as well as other law enforcement agencies and attorneys.

Acceptance in full standing by an accredited college (this includes acceptance in a concurrent enrollment or dual enrollment program);

A Career Readiness Certificate with ACT WorkKeys® scores of skill level 3 or higher in: Graphic Literacy (formerly Locating Information), Applied Math, and Workplace Documents (formerly Reading for Information).

"Acceptance in full standing" means acceptance to a post-secondary program by a college or university and does not require enrollment or participation in the program. This includes acceptance in a program offering college credits while in high school, or both high school and college credits, but does not include taking advanced placement courses in high school.

Some positions in this class require the incumbent operate a State vehicle. Such positions require the selected candidate possess a valid driver's license and be 18 years of age or older on or before the first day of employment.

PREA NOTIFICATION

CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECKS/APSIN/ACOMS

Please be aware – this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.
