Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences in English, and travel domestically & internationally as required.

  • Lead projects through a Stage-Gate development process from ideation through launch, meeting quality, time, scope, and cost targets.
  • Ensure designs meet customer needs, business standards, and program requirements including regulatory and safety aspects.
  • Execute designs with 3D modeling to create models, assemblies, drawings, and BOMs for components such as plastics, stamped metal, and electrical parts.
  • Maintain expertise by integrating latest technologies and methodologies into work.
  • Support continuous improvement of the chapter and development of new capabilities and culture.

Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute significantly to successful project results in technology, software, product, and/or solution development, as well as associated Intellectual Property (IP). Each day, you will act as the first point of contact in Research and Development for specific product-related issues and maintenance. You will also showcase your expertise by identifying, proposing, and implementing innovative solutions.
The work model for the role is: Hybrid
This role is contributing to the Panelboards chapter, primarily supporting the Develop & Care – OEM Agile Team in Bloomfield, CT.
You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Leading projects through a Stage-Gate development process from ideation through launch, driving the achievement of assigned targets (quality, time, scope, cost) and managing risks.
  • Ensuring projects meet customer needs, business standards, and program / product requirements, including functional, cost, reliability, manufacturability, regulatory, and safety requirements.
  • Executing designs with solid modeling software (PTC Creo / Windchill) to create models, assemblies, detailed drawings, and BOMs for designs which may include plastic, stamped metal, and electrically conductive parts and validating designs through appropriate means including performance testing.
  • Maintaining recognized expertise in a specific area by integrating the latest developments in technologies, tools, and methodologies into your work.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of the chapter, including to the improvement or development of new capabilities, skills, technical knowledge, performance, and/or culture.

You will join a dynamic, collaborative team of engineers, where you will be able to thrive, learning & growing while contributing to the business by developing safe, quality new products.

Qualifications for the role
  • You enjoy solving technical problems and developing products & solutions in the electrification market, such as circuit breakers, panelboards, or switchboards, including for the Data Center (DC) Market
  • You are skilled in understanding and adapting to dynamic customer needs, organizing work for yourself and an extended cross-functional team, and effectively communicating complex information with diverse audiences, both verbally and in writing
  • You have experience in mechanical design (including 3D modeling and 2D drawing creation using PTC Creo or similar tools) and engineering analysis
  • You foster a growth mindset, focusing on continual learning and improvement, and you are at ease operating in a dynamic agile environment focused on delivering value to internal & external customers
  • BS Mechanical Engineering or similar educational background with 5+ years of experience in R&D or a related field
  • You are at ease communicating in English
  • Able to travel domestically & internationally as required
  • You have valid US work authorization and must not require sponsorship for an employment visa by ABB at any time in the future
