Job summary

GFT is seeking an OE Transmission Line Engineer to join our Power Business Group. The role is based across several US locations with hybrid or remote options for the right candidate, and focuses on transmission, distribution, and renewable energy projects.

You will work with clients and consultants, review submittals, ensure compliance with NESC/IEEE, coordinate feasibility studies, mentor junior staff, and help manage schedules and procurement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Structural Engineering from an accredited college.
  • At least 4 years of transmission line design experience.
  • Proficient with NESC, IEEE, NEC and related standards.
  • High proficiency in PLS-CADD.
  • Experience in electrical utility or utility consulting preferred.
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in project team meetings with clients, other consultants, and contractors.
  • Review client submittals, design criteria documents, and construction specifications for constructability and compliance.
  • Review construction packages—structure loading drawings, structure details, material lists, staking tables, plan and profiles, and stringing charts.
  • Review project schedules and ensure that materials and long‑lead‑time items are ordered on time for construction.
  • Verify specifications in compliance with NESC, IEEE, NEC requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Coordinate feasibility studies, routing studies, and EMF calculations to support project planning.
  • Oversee project implementation, ensuring proper verification of foundations, structures, and equipment installation.
  • Mentor and coach less‑experienced engineers and technicians, fostering professional growth.

About the Position

GFT is seeking an OE Transmission Line Engineer to join our Power Business Group. The role is available in Chicago, IL; Phoenix, AZ; Charlotte, NC; St. Louis, MO; Marlton, NJ; Roanoke, VA; and Monroeville, PA, and can be hybrid or, for the right candidate, fully remote. Joining the power team means engaging in cutting‑edge projects that drive the future of energy infrastructure, providing solutions for power transmission, distribution, and renewable energy.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in project team meetings with clients, other consultants, and contractors.
  • Review client submittals, transmission line segments (using PLS‑CADD or other structural design software), design criteria documents, and construction specifications to ensure constructability and compliance with client standards and procedures.
  • Review comprehensive construction packages—structure loading drawings, structure details, material lists, staking tables, plan and profiles, and stringing charts.
  • Review project schedules and ensure that materials and long‑lead‑time items are ordered on time for construction.
  • Verify specifications in compliance with NESC, IEEE, NEC requirements, and industry best practices.

  • High proficiency in PLS‑CADD.
  • Knowledge of FAD Tools.
  • Experience in electrical utility or utility consulting is strongly preferred.
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with RISA‑3D or STAAD for structural analysis and design.
  • Functional understanding of AISC, ACI 318, ASCE 7, ASCE 10, and ASCE 48.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Compensation

The salary range for this role is $110,000 – $145,000, dependent upon experience and geographic location.
