Job summary

Sandvik in Surprise, AZ seeks an OD Grinder to produce premium carbide tools using CNC grinding machines and programs. You will set up and program the machines, inspect tools for flaws, and ensure consistent high quality by meticulous measurement and visual checks.

Strong math skills, blueprint reading, and attention to detail are essential in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Prior CNC experience is preferred but not required; a high school diploma or GED is required.

Qualifications

• Machining certification ideal but not required.
• Previous CNC operator experience preferred but not required.
• Knowledge of cutters, inserts and feeds/speeds preferred.

Responsibilities

• Set up and offsets as required.
• Read blueprints accurately.
• Inspect tools for defects using QC tools.
• Program and operate CNC machines.
• Evaluate finished product quality by visual inspection and measurement.
• Communicate quality issues to programmers/General Manager.
• Check machinery daily for functionality.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Title: OD GrinderDepartment: GrindingReports to: General ManagerClassification: Non-ExemptLocation: Surprise, AZTravel: NoneJob Summary: The OD Grinder will be responsible for producing premium quality, high precision carbide cutting tools using specific tool grinding machines and programs . Facilitates and operates CNC machines by programming, setup, operating the CNC machine, inspecting tools for visible flaws and correcting quality issues to ensure a consistent product.Duties/Responsibilities:Responsible for the setup and offsets as required .Ability to accurately read blueprints.Inspect tools for defects using quality control tools.Responsible for accurate programming and machine operation.Consistently evaluates the quality of the finished product coming off the CNC machine through visual inspection and the use of measurement tools.Communicates quality issues to programmers and/or General Manager.Check machinery on a daily basis to ensure functionality.Other duties assigned .Education and Experience:High school diploma or general education degree (GED).Certification from a qualified training institution in the field of machining is ideal but not required .A well rounded knowledge of cutters, inserts and feeds/speeds is preferred but not required .Previous manufacturing experience is preferred but not required .Previous CNC Operator experience is preferred but not required .Programming experience is preferred but not required .Required Skills/Abilities:Strong math skills required to perform day to day operations including the ability to convert metric to inch and decimal to fraction.Strong attention to detail.Ability to work in a fast paced manufacturing environment.All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, protected veteran status, disability, age, genetic information, or any other factors prohibited by law.
