Job summary

Hatch is seeking a highly motivated OCS (Overhead Contact System) Engineer to join our North American Infrastructure group in Boston, MA. The successful candidate will design OCS layouts and coordinate with engineers for systems integration. A Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering with 5 to 15 years of relevant experience is required.

Qualifications

Overview

Hatch is seeking a highly motivated OCS (Overhead Contact System) Engineer to join our North American Infrastructure group in our Rail Systems team in the Boston, MA area.

Other possible locations: Ambler, PA (Suburban Philadelphia); Dallas, TX; Chicago, IL; Minneapolis, MN; Newark, NJ; Brooklyn, NY; Portland, OR; Seattle, WA.

Responsibilities
  • Design OCS layout, wire tensions, foundations, poles/columns/structures for light rail, commuter rail, and streetcar with pantograph, as well as streetcar and electrified buses with trolley poles.
  • Coordinate with other engineers for systems integration and design.
  • Prepare design reports.
  • Develop documents including specifications, drawings, and cost estimates.
  • Review project submittals and requests for information from contractors.
  • Provide installation, testing, and commissioning support to clients.
  • Manage OCS projects.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering; relevant experience may be considered as a substitute for degree requirements.
  • 5 to 15 years of experience with DC OCS systems design, including the design of 600 to 1500 volt DC rail as well as 12 to 25 kilovolt AC.
  • Thorough understanding of the National Electrical Safety Code (NEC) and local codes.
  • Professional engineer’s license or engineer‑in‑training certificate is an advantage.
  • Experience with the North American transit/transportation industry is highly desirable.
Skills and Experience That Are a Plus
  • Tension and pole/foundation load calculations.
  • AutoCAD or MicroStation experience.
  • Experience with structural engineering analysis software like STAAD and RISA is a plus.
  • Experience in field testing of OCS systems.
  • Knowledge of railway traction power systems.
  • Project management experience.

Base Compensation: $120,000 - $140,000 (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location).
