Job Title: LAW CLERK II—CRIMINAL DIVISION
Grade: 16
FLSA: Exempt
Salary: $67,389 (Law school graduate pending Illinois licensure: $56,313)

Job Summary and Duties

The Law Clerk II reports to the Presiding Judge of the division. The position requires a strong commitment to access to justice, professionalism, and sound judgment. Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting judges in resolving matters and courtroom proceedings.
  • Researching and analyzing legal issues based on statutes and case law.
  • Studying legal records, documents, and laws to provide relevant analysis.
  • Preparing memoranda and summaries from research findings.
  • Drafting and proofreading opinions, orders, correspondence, and court rules.
  • Consulting with judges on legal interpretations and applications.
  • Monitoring pending legislation.
  • Assisting outside counsel with litigation involving judges or court staff.
  • Handling miscellaneous duties as assigned, maintaining confidentiality.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree, Juris Doctor, and active Illinois law license.
  • Knowledge of legal research and analysis methods.
  • Experience with legal software for research, writing, and documentation.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with legal and non-legal personnel.
