Position Overview

Department: Fire Rescue Department Ocean Rescue

Position Type: Temporary | Full Time/Part Time: Part Time

Pay: $21.08 to $21.66 hourly (negotiable based on experience and qualifications).

Work schedule is variable and includes weekends and holidays.

Job responsibilities: Perform protective service work guarding the safety of patrons at assigned ocean beaches and provide information pertaining to beach and ocean conditions. In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man‑made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.

Requirements

• 480 hours of documented hands‑on experience working as an ocean lifeguard.
• Must successfully complete the Brevard County Ocean Lifeguard Performance Test annually, including a 500‑meter swim in ocean and a physical agility test, in accordance with USLA Advanced Guidelines.
• Must complete the Brevard County Ocean Lifeguard Training Academy 16‑Hour Refresher Course.
• Must possess, or obtain by graduation, a CPR certification from an approved agency and maintain active status during employment.
• Must possess, or obtain by graduation, an Emergency Medical Responder certification from an approved agency and maintain active status during employment.
• Tryouts will be conducted weekly; applicants must pre‑register at [e-mail] to request a testing slot. Pre‑registration will receive an invitation with a time and pool location via email.
