Job description

Job Title: Ocean Lifeguard – Coquina Beach

Location: Coquina Beach, South Nags Head, NC
Period of Performance: Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day
Reports To: Lifeguard Supervisor / Site Manager

Position Summary:
Provide open water lifeguard services at Coquina Beach in accordance with USLA standards. Maintain swimmer safety, respond to emergencies, and ensure designated swim zones are clearly marked and monitored.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor assigned swim zone from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily.

  • Designate swim zone each morning by erecting PVC poles and condition flags.

  • Respond swiftly to water emergencies and administer first aid/CPR as required.

  • Educate beachgoers on water safety and enforce National Park Service rules.

  • Maintain fitness and rescue readiness per USLA standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 18 years of age or older

  • USLA or equivalent open water lifeguard certification

  • Ocean rescue training or 2 years of ocean lifeguard experience

  • Certified in CPR and First Aid

  • Strong physical conditioning and swimming skills
