Job Summary

Under the direction and supervision of the Occupational Therapist, provides occupational therapy services to patients/clients to assist in improving basic motor functions, reasoning abilities, and compensating for permanent loss of function by teaching patients/clients to perform tasks in their daily living and working environments. May treat patients with cognitive impairment, psychosocial dysfunction, and physical disability. Assists with patient/clients and caregiver education.

Essential Functions
  1. Assists Occupational Therapists in providing therapy to patients/clients. Participates in the preparation and execution of the overall care plan.
  2. Provides treatment as planned, delegated, and supervised by the Occupational Therapist to restore and maximize patient/client function. Assesses treatment effectiveness and modifies methods under supervision.
  3. Ensures documentation complies with department standards, legal, regulatory, and reimbursement requirements, completed accurately and promptly.
  4. Communicates with the healthcare team to ensure continuity and coordination of care. Attends interdisciplinary conferences and provides educational input for families or caregivers.
  5. Alerts the supervising therapist of potential health issues or changes in patient/client condition.
  6. May instruct and train other staff, nursing, medical students regarding patient needs and rehabilitation services.
  7. Participates in process improvement and program development.
  8. Provides transportation for patients/clients to community resources related to therapeutic goals, using personal vehicle if needed.
Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree from an accredited therapy assistant program.
  • Experience as a therapy assistant preferred.
  • Experience with neurological injuries, TBI, and Spinal Cord injuries preferred.
  • CRT-Occupational Therapy Assistant, Certified (COTA) - NB-COT, required upon hire.
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) from AHA or ARC, required within 90 days of hire.
  • Valid Driver's License for Michigan, required upon hire.
