General Description

Assist the Occupational Therapist in evaluation and treatment of children with physical disabilities. Assist children in achieving physical and functional independence so that they may access the educational system within limits imposed by their disability.

Qualifications
  • Must possess Oregon license as an Occupational Therapist Assistant (OTA).
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a vehicle for transportation.
  • Able to use power tools and equipment to construct adaptive equipment.
  • Must know how adaptive equipment is designed, fabricated, and used.
  • Able to drive a vehicle from site to site.
  • Able to use power tools and equipment, sewing machines, saws, drills, and other woodworking equipment.
  • Able to lift children with physical disabilities to and from wheelchairs and support children in occupational therapy activities.
Essential Functions
  • Implement intervention programs for children with physical disabilities, both individually and in small groups, as directed by the Occupational Therapist.
  • Observe and evaluate child motor performance. Report observations to supervisor and other team members as an aid in the total evaluation and intervention planning.
  • Maintain written records of frequency and duration of child activities and submit progress reports as directed by the supervising therapist.
  • Design and fabricate adaptive equipment such as switching devices, splints and feeding equipment. Maintain equipment, supplies, and records as specified by the supervising therapist.
  • Assist in the supervision of occupational therapy student teachers, volunteers, or peer tutors in the public school setting. Other duties relating to the education and training of children with disabilities, as required.
  • Travel from school to school in Service Center to provide the services described above at various locations.
  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with staff and customers at all organizational levels.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
