Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant Requirements:

  • Pass a state-administered exam and hold a license for the NBCOT COTA certification.
  • Valid BLS Certification.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist occupational therapy clients by providing rehabilitative services to individuals with various impairments.
  • Work under the supervision of a licensed occupational therapist.
  • Verify client information through interviews, reviewing medical history, and confirming treatment goals.
  • Help clients improve their quality of life by compensating for limitations, such as enhancing motor skills or teaching independence skills.
  • Follow treatment plans developed with the occupational therapist, teaching techniques for movement, stretching, and muscle flexibility.
  • Monitor activities, ensure correct performance, and report any issues to the therapist.
  • Maintain patient records by documenting progress.
  • Record billing information for services rendered.
  • Ensure a safe and healthy work environment by following standards and regulations.
  • Adhere to professional, legal, and accreditation standards to protect and enhance the occupational therapy practice.
  • Contribute to the reputation of occupational therapy by taking ownership of tasks and seeking opportunities for improvement.
