Job description

Job Summary –

Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, under the direct supervision of the OTR/L Supervisor, assists with the occupational therapy, screening, assessment, and treatment of patients in individual and group settings. The COTA also assists with daily responsibilities of the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program.

Qualifications

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • Graduate from an accredited certified occupational therapy program.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a psychiatric occupational therapy setting.

Minimum skills/abilities:

  • Must be certified in CPR or become certified within one year of employment.

Certification/Licensure:

  • Must be registered and eligible in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Job Responsibilities
  • Provide superior customer service to internal and external clients, customers, and patients as referenced in the Service Excellence Standards.
  • Maintain proper, accurate, and timely records of treatment, progress, and discharge summaries.
  • Plan and direct groups in the patient milieu as directed by the Supervisor. Plan 1:1 interventional activities to meet patient needs as directed.
  • Participate in team meetings as scheduled on the unit.
  • Communicate with medical staff and other disciplines as appropriate.
  • Assist with the assessment of the quality and appropriateness of care in accordance with Hospital Performance standards.
Improvement Plan
  • Assist in gathering data for assessments under the direction of OTR/L.
  • Complete daily charges as per department policy and procedure manual.
  • Expand qualifications through professional development, educational opportunities offered by the hospital, or other educational programs.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of patient diagnoses, precautions, and medications for treatment through consultation of medical records and communication with team members.
  • Engage in problem-solving in familiar and unfamiliar situations, seeking Supervisor support appropriately.
  • Adjust to fluctuating needs of patients, families, the Department, and hospital.
  • Plan and organize treatment for adult acute psychiatric populations with varying diagnoses.
