A local educational institution is looking for a Certified Occupational Therapist Registered (OTR) to provide essential therapy services to students aged birth to 21 within the Salida School District. This role involves collaboration with IEP teams, conducting screenings, and providing both direct and indirect services to help students achieve their goals. Qualifications

  • Master's Degree required, specializing in occupational therapy.

  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct screenings of children from birth to age 21.
  • Assist in implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Provide direct and indirect therapy services per IEP.

Job description

This position is for the 2026-2027 school year. The school-based Certified Occupational Therapist Registered (OTR) directs and provides occupational therapy services to students ages birth–21 in the Salida School District to help students benefit from special education. Job related activities include screenings collaboration, Individualized Education Plan (IEP) implementation, supervises the work of the Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant as well as provides some direct and indirect therapeutic services.

Qualifications Required:

Education: Master’s Degree

Licensure: Educator licensing issued by the Colorado Department of Education Special Service Provider Endorsement: School Occupational Therapist

Qualifications Preferred:

Current Certification from the National Board for the Certification of Occupational Therapists (NBCOT) Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification or equivalent

Working Conditions:

Heavy lifting; frequent travel required between buildings; provide direct services to students with disabilities, may assist students in feeding, ambulation, toileting (including diaper changing), and other self-help needs; management and de-escalation of students with aggressive behaviors

REQUIREMENTS
  • Conduct screenings of children from birth to age 21
  • Help identify long-term goals for post-school outcomes
  • Assist IEP teams with the implementation of IEPs
  • Consult with OT and providers regarding curriculum, adaptations, modifications, and student participation and performance
  • Modify environments to allow access for all students
  • Be familiar with the student’s strengths, needs, and services warranted per the IEP or OT.
  • Refer for other discipline involvement when appropriate
  • Provide direct and indirect therapy services to students per IEP
  • Educate self, staff, and students in the proper use of assistive technology, including specialized software and hardware and high/low technologies
  • Document services provided and monitor student progress as directed by the OT or IEP.
