Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited AOTA-certified program.
• Valid OT registration and Missouri licensure.
• Current BLS certification (AHA or Red Cross) or obtained within 60 days of hire.
• Knowledge of growth and development and MO State Practice Act for OT.
• Ability to follow hospital policies and work within established procedures.
• English proficiency sufficient to receive and convey instructions.

Responsibilities

• Provide occupational therapy evaluations, modalities, and treatments.
• Float to outpatient services as needed to cover patient load.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team and contribute to care plans.
• Participate in performance improvement activities and department initiatives.
• Maintain accurate documentation and ensure patient safety and comfort.
• Support department operations and assist with equipment safety and cleanliness.

PURPOSE STATEMENT

Occupational Therapists assume responsibility and accountability for a designated group of inpatients and outpatients, including those being treated by a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant under Plans of Care designed by the Occupational Therapist. Occupational Therapists provide occupational therapy evaluations, modalities, and treatments in accordance with the Missouri practice act and established hospital and departmental policies and procedures to promote or restore the patients’ highest functional status while providing quality patient care. Will be expected to float to outpatient if needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Provide occupational therapy interventions and patient/family education.
• Participate in performance improvement programs and development activities.
• Provide input in budgetary planning processes, contribute to cost-effectiveness of services provided by the department.
• Communicate observations and suggestions related to opportunities for improvement.
• Maintain positive rapport with all customers.
• Participate in department cleaning, organizing, and monitoring equipment safety/status.
• Assist the unit secretary as needed and as appropriate.
• May be assigned to orient staff and students.
• May also assist in WMMC support groups as appropriate.
• Work cooperatively with other patient care providers using interdisciplinary teamwork.
• Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
• Performs other essential duties as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited AOTA certified school.
• Valid registration and licensure as an Occupational Therapist by the Missouri Board of Registration for the Healing Arts.
• Current AHA or Red Cross BLS required or obtained within 60 days of hire.
• Knowledgeable regarding growth and development and assessing the physical and psychological needs of patients of all ages as allowed by the Missouri State Practice Act for Occupational Therapists.
• Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work within the established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the hospital/clinic.
• English sufficient to provide and receive instructions/directions.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must be able to sit and stand, intermittent 8 to 10 hours a day.
• Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard.
• Continuously works under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines.
• Continuously utilizes manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing.
• Frequently stands, walks, sits and utilizes eye/hand coordination and color definition.
• Occasionally reaches above shoulder, regularly required to lift and/or carry up to 50 lbs.
• Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.
