As an Occupational Therapist, your typical day is focused on helping patients achieve everyday activities that are often taken for granted. You may assist patients following brain injury, physical trauma, or a stroke to reach the highest possible level of independence. You motivate and support patients on their rehabilitative journey with the tools, benefits, and resources that highlight your unique approach to healthcare.

Responsibilities

• Take the lead: prioritizing, coordinating, and delegating all occupational therapy for your patients.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members and work alongside physicians, nurses, and therapists to ensure excellent occupational initiatives and outcomes.
• Maintain and advocate a safe environment for everyone.
• Monitor and communicate with patients, families, and the care team about significant events, changes in condition, or questions and concerns.
• Ensure continuity of care, efficient throughput, and an exceptional experience for every patient.
• Advise and consult with supervisor when unable to complete assignments promptly, effectively, or safely.
• Initiate patient and family education using appropriate resources and continuum of care services and teach occupational therapy skills to facilitate functional abilities at hospital discharge and at home.
• Implement, evaluate and interpret assessment findings, set goals, and utilize staff resources and patient input effectively.
• Develop and modify treatment plans as needed based on patient progress.
• Use approved terminology, documentation practices, and accurately record charges for services provided.
• Document treatment plans with measurable short-term goals for patient progress.
• Participate in assigned PI committee activities and share information with OT staff.
• Collaborate with the team and assist others as needed.

Minimum qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited program in Occupational Therapy.
• OT license in the State of Louisiana through the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners (LSBME).
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
