Walker/Beacon High School in Watertown, MA is seeking a Part-Time Occupational Therapist to provide direct therapy services to students and consult with teachers, parents, and other professionals. The role involves diagnostic assessments, IEP-related testing, and mentorship of OT assistants.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy is required.
  • Occupational Therapy Certification is required.
  • Experience working with children with mental health, emotional, and learning disabilities is required.
  • Master degree is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide focused Occupational Therapy interventions to students in 1:1 settings and/or small groups.
  • Consult with teachers on OT needs of students with sensory needs and on ways of leading groups.
  • Consult with parents directly and through clinical staff on OT difficulties of individual students.
  • Provide in-service education to teachers, clinicians and milieu counselors on occupational therapy difficulties, diagnostics, and remediation.
  • Conduct annual pre-testing and post-testing in OT development for students who have OT services on their IEP.
  • Screen intake/admission materials to determine OT and sensory needs of incoming students.
  • Provide formal and informal Occupational Therapy diagnostic assessment as requested and approved by LEAs and parent(s).
  • Attend TEAM meetings, IEP meetings, and Clinical Conferences as needed.
  • Supervise Occupational Therapy assistants/interns as directed by the Principal; support assistant/intern in determining schedule, preparing materials/activities/lessons, monitoring progress of students).
  • Provide additional coverage to the school program as needed.
  • Participate fully in in-service training programs and staff meetings.
  • All other duties, as assigned.

Education and Licensure

Required: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy, Occupational Therapy Certification

Experience

Required: Experience working with children with mental health, emotional, and learning disabilities

Preferred: 1 year experience

Essential functions:

  • 1.Provide focused Occupational Therapy interventions to students in 1:1 settings and/or small groups.
  • 2.Consult with teachers on OT needs of students with sensory needs and on ways of leading groups.
  • 3.Consult with parents directly and through clinical staff on OT difficulties of individual students.
  • 4.Provide in-service education to teachers, clinicians and milieu counselors on occupational therapy difficulties, diagnostics, and remediation.
