Job summary

Cleveland Clinic’s Main Campus is seeking a motivated Occupational Therapist to join a dedicated team. This PRN position supports patients from infants to older adults, helping them regain independence through a range of therapies.

You will assess, treat, and document progress, collaborate with physicians and caregivers, and utilize advanced modalities while adhering to safety standards. Weekend and holiday coverage is not required; hours are 7:00 am–6:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy is required.
• Graduate of an AOTA-accredited OT program.
• Current State OT license.
• Current BLS certification (AHA or Red Cross).
• Valid Ohio driver’s license upon hire; per policy 8-175 thereafter.
• Proof of automobile insurance coverage with $100,000/$300,000 coverage, upon hire; per policy 8-175 thereafter.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients and apply varied therapeutic techniques to rehabilitate functional limitations.
• Provide OT services to clients with upper extremity injuries or disability.
• Perform joint assessments and evaluate musculoskeletal and sensorimotor functions.
• Develop and adjust treatment plans based on data to reach goals.
• Use P/ROM, joint mobilization, massage, desensitization, and job simulation.
• Apply modalities such as heat/cold packs, ultrasound, NMES, and biofeedback.
• Fabricate splints and train clients in adaptive devices.
• Communicate effectively with caregivers and family about patient status.
• Submit status reports to referring physicians and workers' compensation teams.
• Occasionally assist Industrial Service Department clients.

Occupational Therapists provide many wide-ranging services to a variety of people, from infants to older adults. Occupational therapy is provided to people who have been referred by a physician due to a problem with their ability to perform normal activities of daily living (ADLs). This may be due to physical injury, emotional or developmental problems, stroke, elective surgery, disease processes, aging, or birth defects, just to name a few. The goal of OT is to maximize the ability of each individual to perform self-care, work, and leisure activities to the best of their physical, emotional, and cognitive abilities. Ultimately, the goal is also to help patients re‑learn skills needed to live independent, productive and satisfying lives.

This is a PRN role. A caregiver in this position will work as needed between 7:00am and 6:00pm, Monday through Friday. No weekends or holidays required.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Evaluate patients and apply a wide variety of therapeutic techniques for the rehabilitation of patients with functional limitations, impairments and disorders.
• Provide occupational therapy services to clients with upper extremity injuries, disease or disability.
• Provide evaluation for clients not limited to joint assessment, musculoskeletal functions, sensorimotor skills, functional and work abilities.
• Develop a treatment plan based on data collected as well as implement, monitor, and modify plan to achieve goals.
• Provide occupational therapy techniques not limited to P/ROM, joint mobilization, massage, myofascial release, desensitization techniques, dressing changes and job simulation.
• Utilize thermal and electrical physical agent modalities not limited to providing hot/cold packs, fluidotherapy, paraffin/contrast baths, ultrasound, phonophoresis, TENS, NMES, HVPGS, iontophoresis, and biofeedback.
• Fabricate custom splints, select/order adaptive devices/equipment and train client in use.
• Communicate effectively with fellow caregivers and family members regarding client's condition.
• Provide a written status report to referring physician each time client is to see their physician and when is a workman's comp case to other appropriate parties.
• Assist on occasion with Industrial Service Department clients.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Bachelor's Degree required.
• Must be a graduate of an Occupational Therapy Program accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association.
• Current State Licensure as an Occupational Therapist (OT).
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross .
• Valid Ohio Driver's license upon hire; per policy 8-175 thereafter.
• Proof of automobile insurance coverage with $100,000/$300,000 coverage, upon hire; per policy 8-175 thereafter.

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Experience in clinical area
• Certified Hand Therapist (CHT)

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to walk without assistive device and to maintain balance despite sudden load to support patient from falling.
• Ability to meet physical demands characterized at the heavy level defined by 1993 Leonard Matheson and Ministry of Labor.
• Ability to lift and reach with arms sufficiently to lift patient's arm and leg during therapeutic treatment program.
• Sensation of touch and manual dexterity to be able to palpate muscle tension or to monitor patient pulse.
• Visual acuity to observe patient's gross and fine motor movements to analyze these movements and to read all patient monitors.
• Ability to speak clearly enough to instruct patients and families.
• Ability to hear at a conversational level to understand patient's description of symptoms and response to treatment.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $50.00

Maximum hourly: $50.00
