Job summary

Building Connections Behavioral Health (BCBH) is seeking a School-Based Occupational Therapist to support students in Walnut Creek and in Non-Public Schools in Concord and Martinez. This is an in-person role, with either full- or part-time schedules, with typical hours between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm.

You will provide 1:1 and group therapy, assess developmental needs, write IEP goals, and collaborate with families and school staff to promote functional skills for children with disabilities.

Qualifications

  • Occupational Therapy License is required.
  • Registered with the American Occupational Therapy Association and/or NBCOT.
  • Possession of a valid California driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and provides Occupational Therapy services as identified through IEPs for Building Connections Academy students.
  • Writes assessment reports and individual student goals; maintains progress records and participates in IEP meetings.
  • Provides individual and group therapy to address sensory-motor integration and functional skills in school settings.
  • Develops OT treatment plans aligned with educational goals and collaborates with the IEP team.
  • Interacts with families and school staff to implement home and school strategies; ensures compliance with Special Education laws.

Job Summary:

Building Connections Behavioral Health (BCBH) is looking for motivated, energetic individuals who have a passion for helping others and working within a team. At BCBH, our foundation is built from the bottom up. Every team member is an integral part of the treatment team focused on one goal, to provide the best possible service to our clients and their families. We work with children who may be on the Autism spectrum, who may have behavioral difficulties or neurological differences, and we help them gain skills to be their most independent and fulfilled selves. This is done through providing 1:1 support, providing parent education, and being a safe support system for our clients.

This School-Based Occupational Therapist will help support our Clinic in Walnut Creek and our Non-Public Schools in both Concord and Martinez. This is an in-person role and we are open to full or part time work. Business typically takes place between the operating hours of 9:00 am and 3:00 pm.

Qualifications:
  • Occupational Therapy License (Required).
  • Registered with the American Occupational Therapy Association and/or certified with the National Board of Occupational Therapy.
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license.
  • Intellectual, sensory, and physical development of children.
  • Application of occupational therapy techniques utilized in the assessment and treatment of children with disabilities.
  • Theory of physical and mental rehabilitation underlying the practices of occupational therapy; Principles, methods, and objectives of occupational therapy treatment, services, techniques of skeletal anatomy, neuromuscular function, and dysfunction; kinesiology and occupational therapy modalities.
  • Actively support Building Connections Academy's mission, vision, values, and goals.
  • Principles of consultation, training, and supervision.
  • Accurately assess the developmental status and educational needs of children.
  • Maintain student performance data and documentation.
  • Support quality improvement efforts by complying with company initiatives and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency.
  • Follow and uphold all Building Connections Academy's policies outlined in the handbook, and procedural documents.
  • Carry out all responsibilities in accordance with the applicable laws. Provide leadership and management to ensure that the core values are always put into practice.
  • The employee may be required to intervene and de-escalate physical and emotional outbursts by students, including such behaviors as kicking, spitting, hitting, scratching, biting, running, and cursing; the employee must be able to run quickly for brief spurts.
  • While performing the duties and responsibilities of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, stand, move and walk at a brisk pace, sit, and use hands and arms to handle, feel, and reach.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stoop or kneel and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • The position requires the ability to accompany students anywhere on school premises, including support with toileting and other basic needs.
Responsibilities:
  • Therapist will help develop the Building Connections OT program.
  • Provides occupational therapy services, as identified through each Individualized Education Program (IEP) to students enrolled at Building Connections Academy.
  • Writes assessment reports identifying the student's needs and proposed treatment strategies; writes individual student goals and objectives as part of the IEP; maintains progress records; participates in the IEP meeting.
  • Provides students with individual treatment and group therapy sessions to correct specific areas of sensory-motor integrative dysfunction.
  • Develops occupational therapy treatment plans based on the educational goals for students to improve the student's functional abilities within the school and naturalistic settings, in collaboration with the IEP team.
  • Participates in meetings between Building Connections Academy staff and families on the appropriate implementation of programs; collaborates and coordinates occupational therapy goals with the educational program.
  • Demonstrates educational and developmental strategies to students and families for successful home intervention of perceptual, motor, and sensory programs.
  • Provides interpretation and summaries of assessment reports to families; recommends appropriate activities and materials designed to support motor goals in the home.
  • Maintains an in-depth knowledge of the laws and policies governing Special Education in California, particularly as they pertain to the delivery of occupational therapy services.
  • Administers occupational therapy programs as needed in terms of budget recommendations, space, and equipment recommendations.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
