A Brief Overview
Plans and administers occupational therapy treatments for patients suffering from injuries or disease affecting neurological, musculoskeletal, sensory, respiratory, and cardiac systems with the purpose of restoring function, relieving pain, providing education to patients/families/staff. Works to improve the physical, cognitive/perceptual, and developmental components that may be required to effectively perform regular activities of daily living (ADLs). ADLs can include, but are not limited to the following: Employment/Work Tasks, Home-management Tasks, Grooming/hygiene, Bathing/Dressing, Driving, Leisure Activities.

- Bachelor's Degree Required
Skills And Abilities
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquires or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. (Required proficiency)
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and basic algebra and geometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. (Required proficiency)
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. (Required proficiency)
Licenses and Certifications
- Occupational Therapist (OT) - KSBHA NBCOT preferred. Required
- Basic Life Support - BLS To be completed within first 90 days
What you will do
- Completes Evaluations to assess range of motion, strength, motor planning, coordination (gross and fine), balance, sensory processing, endurance, developmental status, cognitive/perceptual skill level, and ADL status.
- Establishes and provides appropriate treatment methods, to enhance physical and emotional well being, leading toward goal achievement. Evaluate effects of treatment for various stages and adjusts treatments to achieve maximum benefit.
- Reviews physician’s referral, and patient’s condition and medical records to determine most appropriate treatment.
- Fabrication of custom upper extremity splints/orthotic devices. Fabrication or exploration of adaptive equipment used to increase maximum independence level with ADL tasks.
- Consults with other members of healthcare team to help plan and coordinate with other medical interventions.
- Provide physical agent modalities as appropriate to diagnoses.
- Provide patient, family and staff education in OT techniques and objectives. Instructs patients and family in treatment procedures to be continued at home.
- Gathers materials and supplies for individual use and cleans and returns to appropriate areas at end of treatment sessions.
- Orients, instructs, and directs work activity of assistants, aides and students.
- Records treatment, response, and progress in patient’s chart or enters information into computer.
- Plans and conducts lectures and training program on occupational therapy and related topics for medical staff, students, and community groups as assigned.
- Consult with insurance companies regarding plan of care.
