Job description

Occupational Therapist II – Contra Costa County Health Services Department

The Board of Supervisors has authorized future salary increases for this classification: 5% on July 1, 2025. Bargaining Unit: Local 856 – Health Services Unit.

Therapists may be assigned to the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and its Health Centers, or the California Children Services Programs located throughout the County.

Typical Tasks
  • Evaluates, plans and implements treatment taking into account self‑care, functional mobility, upper extremity function, adaptive/assistive equipment, home management, community skills, visual‑perceptual ability, motor and sensory/motor development, functional cognition, and more.
  • Provides technical advice and assistance to less experienced therapists and may assist in training them.
  • Delivers excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Explains occupational therapy recommendations to patients, families and provides patient and family education and training.
  • Provides consultation and education on therapy treatment considerations.
  • Collaborates with care providers to ensure proper patient treatment and follow‑up.
  • Secures and returns clinic supplies and equipment, maintaining required records and statistics.
  • Prepares reports of patient treatment, discharge planning and evaluation of treatment services.
  • Provides training and work direction to aides, assistants, interns and volunteers.
  • Consults with other therapists as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • License Required: Possession of a valid License or limited Permit to practice as an Occupational Therapist issued by the California Board of Occupational Therapy.
  • Experience: Two (2) years of full‑time or equivalent experience as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Certification: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate issued by the American Heart Association or CPR certification issued by the American Red Cross.
  • Background Investigation: A background investigation/fingerprint and/or physical exam may be required prior to the start of employment.
