Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System in Kansas City, KS seeks an Occupational Therapist I for acute care, weekend days, full-time. You will evaluate patients, design goal-directed interventions, and monitor progress with the interdisciplinary team.

Requires OT education and state licensure, CPR, and ongoing continuing education. Weekend premiums may apply; you will also supervise Level I/II OT students and contribute to teaching within the department.

Qualifications

  • Master's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Licensed Occupational Therapist in the state.
  • Current CPR certification and continuing education compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates diagnoses and conducts acute care assessments.
  • Designs and implements goal-directed, customized interventions.
  • Documents evaluations, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Educates staff and students; provides lab and classroom teaching as needed.
  • Supervises OT Level I/II students with appropriate guidance.
  • Maintains CPR and follows departmental procedures.

Position TitleOccupational Therapist I - Acute CareWeekend Days - Full TimeOrr-MajorPosition Summary / Career Interest:Friday - MondayThe Occupational Therapist works as a member of the interdisciplinary patient care team. They perform an individualized evaluation, design goal-directed customized interventions to improve the person's ability to perform daily activities and periodically review the patient's performance to ensure that the goals are being met and/or make changes to the intervention plan.Weekend Shift Premium Pay availableResponsibilities and Essential Job FunctionsEvaluates selected diagnoses accurately using basic techniques in acute care and rehabilitation.Asks for clarification of orders from physicians, and requests consult from other OTs as needed.Considers all aspects of the patient’s needs including the physical, psychosocial, developmental, and cultural.Develops and implements treatment plans using appropriate problem solving skills, and clinical reasoning.Documents evaluations, progress notes, and discharge notes in a clear and concise manner, consistent with department policies and KOTA/AOTA.Provides educational programs for the OT department, other disciplines, including orientation for nursing and medical students.May provide teaching for OT ED labs as requested, with assistance as needed.Supervises Level I students independently. Supervises Level II students after one year of clinical experience, with assistance from the Student Coordinator as needed.Meets all state requirements for continuing education with the Kansas Board of Healing Arts (40 hours/biannually).Maintains current CPR certification.Follows all departmental procedures.Demonstrates good rapport with patients and professionalism with other professionals, patients, and visitors.Provides supervision for COTA’s with patient evaluation information and treatment development and implementation, as well as supervision for HCA.Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.These statements are intended to describe the essential functions of the job and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities.
