Job description

Occupational Therapist (Hand/Outpatient, Per Diem)

Organizes and conducts an Occupational Therapy program upon referral from a physician to facilitate rehabilitation of the physically handicapped or injured person with a focus on Upper Extremity/Hand. Educates patients, families, students and the community in the Occupational Therapy practice. Participates as a team member in the day‑to‑day operations of the department.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluates patients, establishes goals and implements treatment program per department's procedures and standards of care in a supportive and caring environment.
  • Appropriately assesses and manages pain in accordance with the established guidelines.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge/skill necessary to provide care appropriate ranging in age from infant to elder.
  • Instructs patients and families in occupational therapy procedures as part of a patient's ongoing program as needed.
  • Adequately plans for patient's discharge involving other pertinent team members, when appropriate.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Licensed Occupational Therapist.
  • 0–1 years related work experience required in Occupational Therapy, with specialization in Hand Therapy for at least one year.
  • Experience with computer systems required, including web‑based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification in Hand Therapy.

  • Independence of Action: Ability to follow precedents and procedures. May set priorities and organize work within general guidelines. Seeks assistance when confronted with difficult and/or unpredictable situations. Work progress is monitored by supervisor/manager.

  • Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information in English to medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
  • Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied situations.
  • Team Work: Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to improve the operations of immediate work group by offering ideas, identifying issues, and respecting team members.
  • Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service‑oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
Key Physical and Job Requirements

Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 50 pounds of force frequently. Work is physically demanding and requires extended periods of standing and/or moving.

Compensation

$38.50 – $51.82 per hour. Additional pay for shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay and other additional pay practices may apply.
