Job summary

Trinity Health Chelsea Hospital is seeking an Occupational Therapist to evaluate and treat hospital inpatients and outpatients across specialty programs. The role focuses on delivering thorough assessments, creating tailored plans of care, and educating patients for home programs.

You will collaborate with the care team, supervise OT fieldwork students as needed, and stay current with insurance guidelines for rehabilitation services while documenting comprehensively for each patient encounter.

Qualifications

• OT degree from an accredited university.
• Michigan licensure required; NBCOT preferred.
• CPR certification required.

Responsibilities

• Maintains rapport and cooperates to identify problems and participate in their resolution.
• Ensures confidentiality of patient and hospital information and discusses sensitive matters only with appropriate personnel.
• Adheres to Code of Conduct and Chelsea Hospital policies.
• Performs safe practice and reports hazards for staff safety.
• Delivers thorough OT evaluations and plans care based on patient deficits.
• Educates patients and families with individualized home programs.
• Supervises OT fieldwork students as assigned by the Manager.
• Documents patient interactions thoroughly and timely per state law and payer guidelines.
• Completes daily patient charges in line with payer requirements.
• Collaborates with management to manage schedules and productivity.
• Participates in staff meetings and departmental quality assurance.

The Rehabilitation Services Staff Occupational Therapist provides evaluation and treatment of hospital inpatients and outpatients in a range of specialty programs.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

• Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution.
• Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, colleagues, and visitors to Chelsea Hospital. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places.
• Behaves in accordance with the Code of Conduct, Service Excellence Standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values and policies of Chelsea Hospital.
• Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.
• Demonstrates self-directed learning.
• Provides quality patient care by considering the age specific, development and cultural needs through competent clinical practice. Demonstrates unit/area competencies.
• Identifies and assists in resolution of problems related to safety, sanitation and maintenance of the environment.
• Practices effective communication in all interactions (patient, visitor, co-worker, etc.)
• Promotes a positive work environment by demonstrating teamwork.
• Orients patients and families to the therapeutic purposes and procedures of Occupational Therapy.
• Provides a thorough occupational therapy evaluation and creates an appropriate plan of care based on the patient deficits.
• Instructs patients and families in individualized home programs.
• Participates in departmental quality assurance and improvement activities.
• Provides for his/her own professional growth and education and contributes to staff development activities.
• Supervises Occupational Therapy fieldwork students as assigned by the Manager or Student Program Coordinator.
• Stays up to date on all participating insurance guidelines for rehabilitation services.
• Provides thorough documentation on each patient interaction. Documentation must be timely and include all pertinent information required by state law, accrediting agencies and 3rd party payers.
• Completes daily charges for each patient while adhering to ethical practices per insurance guidelines for each payer.
• Works with Manager and secretarial staff to ensure schedules are managed well to achieve targeted productivity and clinic budget.
• Participates in regularly scheduled staff meetings.

Other Functions And Responsibilities

Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Experience And Certification/Licensure

Education: Bachelors Degree or higher in Occupational Therapy from accredited university

Experience:

Certification/Licensure: Licensure in the State of Michigan. Certification with the NBCOT preferred.
