Position

Occupational Therapist Assistant – Brockton Behavioral Health Center – Brockton, MA – Per Diem, On‑Site.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Rehabilitation Therapies Supervisor/Manager, the level 1 Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant assists the Licensed Occupational Therapist with comprehensive treatment of in‑patients and out‑patients having physical, cognitive, psychosocial, or functional deficits. Implements individual and group occupational‑therapy treatment to achieve the highest possible level of independence in daily living skills. Collaborates with other disciplines to arrange follow‑up care, provides student training, and participates in continuous education and interdisciplinary research.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement comprehensive individual and group treatment under supervision of the licensed occupational therapist, following established treatment priorities based on evaluation results and plan of care.
• Use effective treatment procedures, creative approaches, and alternative solutions to address individual patient problems.
• Monitor patient response to treatment, inform the therapist of changes that may require reassessment, and recommend appropriate adaptive or orthotic devices.
• Develop and instruct patients and caregivers in home programs and recommended equipment; provide verbal and written instructions as indicated.
• Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with all patients, engaging them in treatment, providing reinforcement, and setting limits appropriately.
• Communicate patient progress to team members regularly and discuss discharge planning, care‑plan changes, and progress toward goals with the evaluating therapist.
• Advise the supervisor when patients from age groups not regularly served are present; seek assistance from individuals with specialized knowledge.
• Adhere to diagnosis‑related precautions, demonstrate good judgment, and seek assistance when necessary.
• Monitor clinical supplies, request replacements in a timely manner, and issue supplies/equipment cost‑effectively while justifying usage.
• Document actual intervention, patient response, and progress toward goals accurately and timely, maintaining an average score of 95% on documentation indicators.
• Complete patient‑care charges accurately and on time; meet area‑specific productivity standards (≥95% of the time).
• Participate in peer review, providing constructive feedback and learning experiences for peers.
• Fulfill mandatory requirements (PPD, competencies, safety/infection‑control test, CPR recertification, license renewal) within prescribed time frames.
• Engage in ongoing professional growth, keeping current with advances in occupational‑therapy treatments and techniques through continuing education and literature review.
• Direct and supervise the Rehabilitation Aide in compliance with the State Practice Act.
• Contribute to the development and evaluation of occupational‑therapy programs, including research projects and quality‑improvement initiatives.
• Act as a clinical resource for other health‑care professionals, support staff, and the rehabilitation‑therapy team.
• Attend all mandatory department meetings, complete in‑service education, and present peer‑reviewed information clearly.
• Participate responsibly in the supervisory process, preparing for supervisory meetings and developing annual goals with the supervisor or manager.
• Orient medical professional staff, volunteers, and high‑school students to occupational‑therapy assistants, and supervise occupational‑therapy‑assistant students, providing training and performance evaluations.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in Occupational Therapist Assistant from an accredited institution.
• Current Commonwealth of Massachusetts Occupational Therapist Assistant licensure or eligibility status; CPR certification required.
• Preferred 1–3 years’ experience.
• Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with patients, families, and the health‑care team.
• Analytical abilities to implement and progress appropriate treatment programs.
• Excellent oral and written English communication skills.
• Bilingual or multi‑lingual skills (beyond English) a plus for the patient population served.
• Ability to work independently and manage time and assignments effectively.
• Weekend availability required.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation Range: $26.92–$37.74 per hour (estimates based on minimum qualifications).
