Job Summary

The Occupational Therapist 2 – Per Diem is an experienced clinician who provides comprehensive occupational therapy services to patients with diverse and complex rehabilitation needs. Under the direction of the Occupational Therapy Supervisor, the therapist independently evaluates patients, develops individualized treatment plans, implements evidence-based interventions, and adjusts care based on patient progress and clinical needs.

The Occupational Therapist 2 – Per Diem is an experienced clinician who provides comprehensive occupational therapy services to patients with diverse and complex rehabilitation needs. Under the direction of the Occupational Therapy Supervisor, the therapist independently evaluates patients, develops individualized treatment plans, implements evidence-based interventions, and adjusts care based on patient progress and clinical needs. Working with a high degree of clinical judgment and independence, the Occupational Therapist 2 collaborates with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to support functional recovery, independence, and optimal patient outcomes. As an experienced member of the therapy team, this position also serves as a clinical resource to entry-level Occupational Therapists, supports staff orientation and education, and participates in departmental training and professional development activities. This per diem position provides an opportunity to contribute advanced occupational therapy expertise while supporting the evolving clinical and operational needs of the rehabilitation team.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload a license and/or certification if required for the position.
  • California Licensed Occupational Therapist (OT)
  • American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR
  • Two (2) years of experience as an Occupational Therapist in an acute care setting
  • Professional competency in occupational therapy treatment modalities including activities of daily living and transfer training, strengthening, coordination, balance, range of motion, perceptual/cognitive skills training, wheelchair prescription, fabrication of splints and adapted devices
  • Professional competency in occupational therapy evaluation techniques, such as range of motion testing, muscle testing, cognitive/ perceptual testing, activities of daily living evaluation, sensory testing, and use of standardized testing of upper extremity function
  • Ability to meet the physical and sensory demands of patient care, including assisting with patient mobility, monitoring patient conditions and equipment, and communicating effectively with patients and staff
  • Ability to communicate ideas and relate well with staff and patients to work as a team member
  • Flexibility and willingness to assist other staff members with their caseloads
  • Ability to establish and maintain good rapport with patients and their families
  • Ability to train family in follow-through for home therapy programs; home visiting as necessary
  • Ability to communicate clearly on a professional basis with physicians and work cooperatively with a variety of health care professionals
  • Knowledge of requirements in processing for third-party payors
  • Knowledge of appropriate information required for patient and supply record-keeping and ability to appropriately organize written material
  • Ability to clearly document progress notes, discharge plans, and other written reports as requested
  • Ability to effectively plan and manage workload as well as coordinate scheduling of patients in assigned areas of responsibility
  • Ability to verbally communicate pertinent information and knowledge of the profession for training and educating other hospital service personnel
  • Must possess basic computer skills
