Job Summary and Responsibilities

In keeping with the Marian Regional Medical Center Hospice healthcare philosophy, the Occupational Therapist performs all phases of occupational therapy evaluation, treatment planning, treatment and documentation, and performs other tasks related to quality of care and effective department function. Typical duties include: evaluating patients; participating in the treatment program planning; administering occupational therapy modalities, procedures and tests; documenting accurate patient records and progress notes; maintaining appropriate oral or written contact with the referring physician and co‑workers; ensuring a clean and safe work environment by addressing unsafe conditions and malfunctioning equipment; supervising aides in the overall treatment program; assisting DPCS, Hospice Supervisor, and QI Coordinator with QI as required; and participating in all departmental functions and activities such as in‑service education, clerical and other relevant tasks.

Job Requirements
  • Minimum Experience Required: State licensed OT with 1 year experience within the last 5 years
  • Minimum Education Required: Graduate of an accredited school of occupational therapy (accredited jointly by AOTA and the Council on Medical Education of the AMA)
  • Licensure Required: CPR certification; current California driver’s license; clean driving record with proof of liability insurance for automobile; professional liability, annual PPD and physical exam (for contractors)
  • Special Skills: Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, clearly, concisely and accurately; strong interpersonal skills; basic knowledge of occupational therapy principles, techniques and procedures; ability to organize and prioritize work efficiently; ability to function in a team environment, collaborating with other patient‑care team members, physicians, patients and their families; ability to teach physical therapy techniques and procedures to patients and caregivers; ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Preferred Experience: 2 years previous experience as an occupational therapist (preferred but not required); previous hand therapy experience (preferred but not required).
  • Preferred Training: Completion of Hospice Orientation Program upon hiring and completion of HH orientation.
