Job summary

The Rector & Visitors of the University of Virginia is seeking an Occupational Therapist to provide licensed rehab services to patients on a Monday–Friday schedule with day shifts and one weekend per month. A sign-on bonus is available, with potential supervision of staff and collaboration across care teams.

The role requires completing assessments, developing plans of care, and documenting progress while participating in continuing education and quality improvement activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited OT program.
  • Virginia State OT license or Compact Privilege.
  • No experience required or minimal training required as per policy.

Responsibilities

  • Provide therapy services consistent with licensure to clients, including evaluation and plan of care.
  • Implement treatment and educate patient and/or caregiver.
  • Supervise therapy assistants, technicians, students, and volunteers as applicable.
  • Complete patient documentation in a timely manner and address insurance authorizations.

JOB SUMMARY

The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The employee may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below; and specific functions may change from time to time.Responsible for providing therapy services consistent with licensure to clients including evaluation of patient, establishing plan of care, implementing treatment, directing and educating patient and/or caregiver and documentation of the above.Supervise therapy assistants, technicians, students, and volunteers as applicable.Communicate with other health care providers regarding client care and treatment plans.Provide training and education for hospital staff as requested.Complete patient documentation in a timely manner to meet regulatory and organizational requirements.Attend continuing education programs and present findings to appropriate staff as applicable.Review and complete all insurance authorization requirements for patients in a timely manner.Assist with performance improvement for rehab department and hospital.Understand use and precautions of any treatments and equipment used.Positively contributes to the departmental financial performance/productivity.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education:

Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited OT program.

Experience:

No experience necessary. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.

Licensure:

Virginia State Occupational Therapy license or Compact Privilege.

    • Completes patient evaluations and treatments independently while maintaining patient safety.

    • Independently establishes/implements treatment goals and plans based on patient input and evaluation and assessment results.
    • Reassesses outcomes and modifies goals and plans to meet changing needs of the patient.
    • Schedules patient activities according to patient individual needs.

    • Functions as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team.

    • Acquires and maintains knowledge of clinical therapy practice by identifying continuing education needs and participating in educational opportunities.
    • Provides orientation and guidance to new rehabilitation staff in work area as requested.

Physical Demand Code:

Medium to Heavy Physical Demand: The job requires constant standing, frequently walking, and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull 100 lbs. For any weight over 35 lbs., use Safe Handling Equipment. The base compensation range for this role is $40.00 - $58.90 hourly.

Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education. Please note that the pay range does not include any applicable incentive compensation programs such as shift differentials, clinical ladders, and other incentives that may be available for those in eligible positions.
