Position Title: Occupational Therapist
Immediate Supervisor’s Position Title: Director of Student Special Services
Job Summary: Under the direction of the Director of Student Services, the Registered Occupational Therapist provides services to students with disabilities, ages birth to 21, for them to benefit from their program of special education instruction.
Statement of duty/responsibility: Provides direct and indirect occupational therapy services as specified in each students’ Individual Education Program (IEP) plan.
Tasks involved in fulfilling the above duty/responsibility:
Statement of duty/responsibility: As appropriate, consult with teachers, school administration, parents, and others regarding students’ physical, motor, and sensory development.
Statement of duty/responsibility: Functions as a member of the special education team in providing special education services to students with disabilities.
Major field of study or degree emphasis: Occupational Therapy from a school accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association.
MENTAL DEMANDS
Required to deal with a wide range of student, staff and public behaviors and needs in a positive and service-oriented manner. May occasionally deal with distraught or difficult students or parents.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Amount of standing, sitting, walking, bending, and twisting will vary depending on the age of students and classroom assignments. Physical capabilities also require lifting and carrying (no more than 50 lbs.) pushing and/or pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting, and significant finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires approximately 35% sitting, 35% walking, and 30% standing. Maintaining good hygiene is essential.
