Job summary

View Behavioral Health LLC in Long Beach, CA is seeking an Occupational Therapist to join our multidisciplinary team in an adult inpatient program with PHP/IOP options.

You will plan, develop, and implement individualized treatment plans, conduct assessments and therapy sessions, and document progress while coordinating care with other disciplines to support recovery and safety. Qualifications

  • Master's Degree or Doctorate in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
  • Current, active California OT license.
  • NBCOT certification or eligibility to obtain certification.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification preferred.
  • Previous hospital/rehabilitation/outpatient experience preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate fluently in English; bilingual in English and Spanish a plus.
  • Knowledge of OT principles, assessment tools, and rehabilitation techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, coordinate, and implement therapeutic treatment programs.
  • Lead rehabilitation activity groups and conduct assessments, 1:1 sessions, and treatment planning.

Our Long Beach facility currently operates as a 79-bed adult voluntary acute inpatient program, offering private rooms and individualized treatment delivered by a multidisciplinary team. We are dedicated to best practices and person-centered care, supporting each patient's journey toward stability and recovery. To promote continuity of care beyond inpatient treatment, we also offer Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) programs tailored to meet each individual's clinical needs. We are also actively expanding our services across Southern California, with our new San Bernardino campus expected to open later this year.

Department: Long Beach, CA

Salary Range: $43 - 50, based on experience. Contract opportunities may be considered.
Schedule: 8-hour shifts

  • Full Time and Per Diem Employment Available
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, or variable shifts as needed, based on operational or patient care needs

Position Summary

The Occupational Therapist functions under the Director of Social Services to plan, develop, coordinate, and implement therapeutic treatment programs and activities tailored to meet the needs and interests of each patient in the facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement rehabilitation activity groups for patients as needed.
  • Conduct assessments, group notes, 1:1 sessions, and treatment planning
  • Maintain quality verbal reporting and written documentation of patient involvement and progress.
  • Monitor safety and order in rehabilitation of group rooms and unit areas.
  • Attend multidisciplinary treatment planning meetings.
  • Provide individual leisure counseling and discharge planning as needed.
  • Remain calm, composed, and effective in high-stress or crisis situations.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills across disciplines and departments.
  • Demonstrated sound professional judgment; clinical judgment where applicable to licensure/role.
  • While primarily assigned to the inpatient unit, may be required to support the Structured Outpatient Services Program (IOP/PHP) based on census fluctuations and departmental needs

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree or Doctorate in Occupational Therapy from an accredited Occupational Therapy program.
  • Successful completion of clinical fieldwork requirements.
  • Current, active Occupational Therapist (OT) license in the state of California.
  • Certification through the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) or eligibility to obtain certification.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification preferred.
  • Previous experience in a hospital, rehabilitation center, outpatient clinic, school, skilled nursing facility, or home health setting preferred.
  • Experience evaluating and treating patients with physical, developmental, cognitive, neurological, or emotional conditions.
  • New graduates may be considered based on organizational needs.
  • Knowledge of occupational therapy principles, assessment tools, and treatment methodologies.
  • Understanding of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and rehabilitation techniques.
  • Familiarity with adaptive equipment, assistive technology, and environmental modifications.
  • Knowledge of applicable healthcare regulations, documentation standards, and patient privacy requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate fluently in English.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, or other languages commonly spoken by the patient population
  • Crisis prevention/intervention training (e.g., HWC, CPI, PMAB) or de-escalation certification

Physical & Environmental Requirements

  • Frequent walking, standing, sitting, twisting, and bending are required.
  • Must possess adequate auditory capacity to communicate clearly and follow verbal instructions.
  • Ability to safely assist with the physical management, lifting, or repositioning of adult patients, including those who may be physically resistive or assaultive, potentially weighing 100 pounds or more, in accordance with facility safety protocols and training.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to operate standard office and/or clinical equipment requiring repetitive hand movements, manual dexterity, and fine finger coordination, including the use of computers, telephones, and related devices.
