Job description

Position Overview

HCA is seeking a NYS Licensed OT to provide habilitative OT services in our OPWDD Article 16 Clinic. We especially welcome clinicians with experience serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), have a working knowledge of habilitative and functional treatment planning, demonstrate strong interdisciplinary collaboration skills and are committed to client-centered practice.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Provision of services for participants
• Complete Occupational Therapy initial evaluations and revaluations for individuals on clinician's caseload
• Use professional training and collaborative discussion with the individual to develop practical, goal-driven treatment plans
• Deliver interventions supporting adaptive and sensory needs
• Collaborate with families and interdisciplinary teams
• Complete all program documentation in a timely manner and per Agency standards and related regulatory practices. Documentation includes but not limited to: treatment plans, treatment notes, initial evaluations, billing forms, incident reports and discharge summaries
• Supervision of COTA (Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant)
• Work with student interns as assigned
• Attend staff meetings and other meetings/committees as directed by supervisor. Participate in the Clinic's QA committee meeting when available
• Participate in workshops and other professional development activities to expand and/or maintain knowledge of best practices and the OT discipline practices
• Attend all required trainings as directed by supervisor and maintain training certifications

Requirements

Education and Experience Requirements

• Master’s or Doctorate in Occupational Therapy (required)
• Licensed in New York State (required)
• CPR and First Aid certification (preferred)
• Prior experience with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (preferred)

Qualifications And Knowledge

• Must possess valid New York State driver's license and transportation necessary to meet program needs.
• Must be willing to work late afternoon/early evening hours based on the therapy needs of assigned caseload.
• Successful completion of required orientation and annual training. Position requires good verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be able to demonstrate teamwork and professionalism.
• May be requested to complete an evaluation or training in an individual's home.
• Commitment to ethical, person-centered practice
• Knowledge of areas of practice specific to IDD, including development stages and milestones and specific diagnoses.
• Demonstrate respect and values for an individual's right of risk, autonomy, and self-determination.
• Understands and respects the unique needs of individuals with intellectual disabilities or development delays.
• Demonstrate appropriate/professional interpersonal skills with agency personnel, community collaborators, individuals and their choice of supports.
• Communicates verbally and/or in written form clearly and professionally.
• Exceptional problem-solving skills, including a proactive approach to problem solving and the ability to make quick and independent decisions in response to changing conditions.
• Demonstrated capacity to utilize Microsoft Products, Outlook, and Electronic Health Records software.
