Job Description

The Occupational Therapist II serves as a primary clinician, providing comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations, treatments, and education to patients with complex medical and surgical conditions. The role involves collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, setting measurable patient goals, ensuring high‑quality care in alignment with established standards, and serving as a Clinical Instructor for entry‑level and long‑term students.

Key Duties And Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations, testing, and treatment for patients with complex medical and surgical conditions.
  • Educate patients and their families in a manner tailored to their needs.
  • Develop and adjust individualized treatment plans with clear, measurable goals.
  • Ensure daily practices align with established patient care standards.
  • Recommend appropriate equipment for patient care.
  • Assist other staff in assessing patients and problems.
Collaboration & Communication
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team conferences to enhance patient care.
  • Work cooperatively with other team members to maintain a positive and results‑oriented work environment.
  • Collaborate with care teams and community resources for post‑discharge planning and follow‑up.
  • Respond to requests for professional information or advice, referring complex matters to appropriate personnel.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities.
  • Assist the department in performing peer reviews and giving feedback to support staff.
  • Participate in patient‑care committee initiatives as requested by the department.
  • Mentor staff as appropriate.
Operational Responsibilities
  • Plan treatment schedules for optimal staff and equipment use.
  • Maintain productivity while adhering to quality standards.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with infection‑control and sterile‑technique protocols.
  • Document patient care details and record service charges accurately.
  • Manage inventory, equipment maintenance, and work‑area organization.
  • Serve as a Clinical Instructor for short‑term students.
  • Assist with new staff orientation.
  • Assist the department in maintaining a clear and accurate interdisciplinary and interdepartmental information flow.
Professional Development & Compliance
  • Attend relevant educational in‑services and professional activities to stay current on industry practices.
  • Work with the Leader to develop a professional growth plan.
  • Delegate tasks effectively as appropriate.
  • Adhere to all applicable policies, protocols, and regulations.
  • Support and participate in research activities as requested by the department.
  • Contribute to the professional community and the community at large.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Education: Graduation from an Occupational Therapy Program accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association.
  • Experience: At least one year of clinical experience as an occupational therapist.
  • Licensure: A valid, unencumbered Occupational Therapist License approved by the Georgia Board of Occupational Therapy.
Certifications
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Maintain certification with NBCOT.
Physical Requirements

Medium (Max 25 lbs.): Up to 25 lbs., 0‑33% of the workday (infrequently), lifting 25 lbs. max; carrying objects up to 25 lbs.; occasional to frequent standing & walking; occasional sitting; close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing). Physical demands may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks.

Environmental exposures include but are not limited to: blood‑borne pathogen exposure, bio‑hazardous waste chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors, communicable diseases, electrical shock, floor surfaces, hot/cold temperatures, indoor/outdoor conditions, latex, lighting, patient care/handling injuries, radiation, shift work, travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, and environmental conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks.
