Job summary

The City of Worcester is seeking a Safety Specialist for the Safety and Health Division in the Human Resources Department. You will assist in implementing HR Health & Safety programs and provide advisory support to ensure OSHA compliance and safe operations across city departments.

Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply. Thorough knowledge of OSHA standards and state regulations is required, with a focus on public sector safety. Regular onsite work is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, or physical sciences.
• 3 years of related safety/health experience or 5 years with equivalent education/training.
• OSHA 10-hour for general industry or construction; valid driver’s license.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, LMS, and data management tools.
• Strong communication and ability to work with multiple departments.

Responsibilities

• Perform safety inspections in various city environments and projects.
• Conduct in-person safety training for city workgroups.
• Conduct CPR/First Aid training.
• Assist investigations of injuries, accidents, and near-misses.
• Help develop and enforce occupational safety programs and procedures.
• Assist with DOT drug and alcohol testing for safety-sensitive employees.
• Manage city-wide safety supplies inventory.
• Serve as liaison for occupational safety and health issues.
• Conduct job hazard analyses and apply hazard control methods.
• Other duties as assigned.
