Job description

We are seeking an experienced Occupational Safety & Health Specialist to help identify, mitigate, and prevent hazards, ensuring a safe and compliant work environment. This role will involve coaching, mentoring, and collaborating across departments to uphold safety standards, enforce policies, and cultivate a proactive safety culture.

Responsibilities :

  • Manage monthly safety topics, ensuring that supervisors have conducted required safety meetings.
  • Personally conduct monthly safety topic discussions in Kansas City location, working with the operations manager to make the meetings engaging for Spanish and English speakers.
  • Organize and lead safety initiatives, including quarterly manager safety meetings, joint health and safety meetings, awareness campaigns, safety alerts, and facility-wide risk assessments.
  • Establish a line of communication with all company sites to ensure all incidents are communicated within 24 hours to the executive team.
  • Lead investigations of industrial accidents, injuries, or occupational illnesses to understand root causes and evaluate prevention methods.
  • Ensure that an accident investigation report is completed in a timely manner (1 week) for every safety incident, and report the root cause and corrective action measures to the executive team.
  • Carefully analyze safety incidents, articulate the incident and lessons learned in wriƟng, and hold discussions with operations groups to effectively communicate the lessons across the organization.
  • Actively engage with employees to identify potential workplace hazards, assess corrective actions, and implement preventative measures to reduce incident risk.
  • Facilitate risk assessments with salaried and hourly employees, implementing actions to address identified risks and assisting with training for production, maintenance, and warehouse teams.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to pinpoint

potential hazards, creating and implementing corrective actions to address safety gaps.

  • Deliver interactive, hands-on coaching and mentorship to employees, promoting best safety practices.
  • Partners with all departments to uphold plant safety rules and regulations that align with corporate values.
  • Must be willing to document safety violations and have prompt discussions with employees and supervisors, resulting in a clear understanding of our safety rules.

Reinforce safe workplace conduct, appropriate behavior, and the discipline process for safety-related issues.

  • Regularly monitor workplace conditions to ensure compliance with government and Saint-Gobain safety regulations, performing audits to verify adherence.
  • Collaborate with project teams to support safe delivery and commissioning phases for equipment installations.
  • Monitor and manage training and retraining requirements.
  • Take on additional safety-related duties as assigned.

Requirments

  • Technical college degree or certification in Safety, Hygiene, or Occupational Safety, with relevant experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA standards and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with Lockout / Tagout (LOTO), Confined Space protocols, and Machine Guarding practices.
  • Experience with incident investigation and report writing.
  • Capability to remain on foot for the majority of an 8-hour shift, with the flexibility to work extended hours if required.
  • English / Spanish speaking is preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements

  • Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas.
  • Must be able to lift and carry and push and / or pull 50-pound loads at a time.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to stand and walk up to eight hours per day
  • Must be able to work any shift, when needed.
