About You

Your contribution

As a member of the Safety team, the Occupational Safety and Health Specialist is responsible for managing and monitoring safety programs at Wakefern distribution centers. These program elements include, but are not limited to policy compliance, auditing and monitoring safety and health programs and initiatives, supporting accident investigations, conducting reporting analysis, and assembling and facilitating safety trainings. This position is located in Keasbey, NJ.

What you will do

  • Provide safety support to retail sites as needed, within the scope of the Corporate Safety program
  • Serve as point of contact for safety questions and concerns
  • Conduct task-specific job safety analyses for work performed in various Wakefern facilities as well as at retail stores throughout our trade area
  • Review safety programs to evaluate their effectiveness and ensure implementation
  • Assist in the investigation of accidents and determining causative factors to prevent recurrence
  • Conduct health and safety audits of retail and warehouse locations to identify risk, unsafe conditions and/or practices and make appropriate recommendations
  • Perform safety training as needed
  • Perform corrective action follow up to ensure continuous traction and successful closure
  • Plan, organize, and conduct toolbox/tailgate sessions and/or other related employee safety meetings and ensures proper documentation, as outlined by Corporate Safety
  • Coordinate and monitor work standard development while working closely with corporate and operations personnel

What we’re looking for

  • Bachelor’s Degree is strongly preferred
  • Fluent in English and Spanish
  • 2-4 years of experience in safety related functions, preferably in retail or warehouse environments
  • Proven working knowledge of safety regulations and industry standards, as well as best practices
  • Demonstrated effective adult training techniques, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, as well as the measurement of training effectiveness
  • Strong analytical, leadership, teamwork and customer service skills as demonstrated by previous work experience
  • Excellent written communication, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and delegate tasks
  • Ability to negotiate and support implementation of projects, programs, and initiatives.
  • Ability to multi-task with strong attention to detail
  • Solid PC skills in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Valid driver’s license required and flexibility with travel
