Job summary

Herc Rentals is seeking an experienced Occupational Health Nurse to strengthen field medical support and employee health initiatives across our North American operations.

This remote role collaborates with the Risk Department to proactively manage claims, workers’ compensation, return-to-work programs, and mental health initiatives, with limited travel to field locations as needed.

Qualifications

  • Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of occupational health nursing in a similar industry.
  • Experience conducting virtual and telephone-based clinical assessments and case management.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Risk Department to manage workers’ compensation claims and workplace injuries.
  • Support health initiatives, return-to-work programs, and wellness activities.
  • Provide field-based clinical resources and coordinate healthcare services for occupational incidents.
  • Liaise with HR and management for RTW notes and restrictions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure regulatory compliance.

Job Purpose

The Herc Rentals Occupational Health Nurse strengthens our field medical support and employee health initiatives. This role will be instrumental in collaborating with our Risk Department to proactively manage claims, workers’ compensation, workplace injuries, OSHA recordables, and overall employee health including mental health.

What you will do...
  • Collaborate closely with the Risk Department and Workers’ Compensation Boards to effectively manage and mitigate workers’ compensation claims, recordables, and other workplace injuries.
  • Work alongside the Safety Department in the development and implementation of health and safety initiatives, policies, and best practices to safeguard workers, prevent injuries, and promote workplace wellbeing.
  • Provide intake of initial injury reports and coordinate timely and appropriate healthcare services for occupational incidents.
  • Serve as a field-based clinical resource, supporting employees and management regarding health-related incidents, claims, and injury management.
  • Assess work-related injuries and provide expert guidance to employees and managers on injury management and claims processes.
  • Evaluate and interpret employees' medical and occupational history, subjective complaints, and physical examination findings to inform care and workplace decisions.
  • Support and act as a liaison for the company's Return to Work (RTW) Program, collaborating with HR, branch managers, and other departments on RTW notes and restrictions.
  • Provide intervention, EAP coordination, and crisis support for employee health concerns, with particular attention to mental health and well-being.
  • Act as a liaison between field operations, risk management, and external medical providers to ensure seamless communication and care coordination.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation for all cases, interventions, and communications.
  • Support compliance with regulatory requirements to ensure organizational adherence to legal standards.
  • Participate in training and education initiatives for field staff on health, safety, and injury prevention, fostering a culture of safety and wellness.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
Requirements
  • Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing.
  • Demonstrated experience in occupational health nursing, including workplace injury management, workers' compensation (WSIB/WCB), return-to-work planning, and fitness-for-work assessments.
  • Experience conducting virtual and telephone-based clinical assessments and case management.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise strong clinical judgment in a highly autonomous environment.
  • This is a remote position; candidates must have the ability to work effectively in a virtual environment.
  • Limited travel within the branches is required. Travel may be necessary for employee assessments, meetings, training, or operational support and will be determined by the Occupational Health Nurse Manager.
  • Ability to be on call.
  • Valid driver's license.
Experience Required
  • Minimum 3-5 years of occupational health nursing in a similiar industry.
  • Experience supporting employees within a corporate, industrial, transportation, manufacturing, construction, or other safety-sensitive environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing workplace injuries from intake through return to work.
  • Experience working directly with Workers' Compensation Boards (WSIB/WCB) and occupational injury claims.
  • Experience developing and managing return-to-work and modified duty programs.
  • Experience conducting clinical assessments and providing recommendations via telephone and virtual platforms.
  • Experience supporting mental health and substance-related workplace cases.
  • Strong case management and disability management experience.

Type: Headcount Increase

Pay Range:$105,000 - $120,000 per year
