Job summary

Baxter is seeking an experienced Occupational Health Nurse to implement and manage an effective facility-level health program. You will partner with leadership to maximize productivity while controlling health‑related costs and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities include immediate care, health surveillance, case management, and coordination with HR and external providers to ensure timely return to work.

Qualifications

• Registered nurse with current license to practice (BSN preferred).
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a clinical setting.
• COHN certification preferred; OSHA 30-hour training desirable or willing to obtain within 90 days.
• FUNDAMENTALS of industrial ergonomics education or willingness to obtain within 6 months.

• Develop health promotion programs to improve wellbeing and reduce risks.
• Provide counseling on health topics within nursing scope.
• Identify workplace health hazards and partner on risk reduction strategies.
• Ensure program periodic evaluation and stay within OH budget.

Your role at Baxter

Responsible for implementing an effective occupational health program at the facility level. The OHN acts as a business partner to maximize productivity and reduce health‑related costs. Occupational Health program elements include immediate care for illness and injury, health surveillance, job placement, regulatory compliance, case management, and health promotion. Provides healthcare services to employees or persons who become ill or injured at the facility. Practices within the parameters of professional licensure to ensure consistency with legal, labor, regulatory and corporate requirements.

What you’ll be doing

• Implement a facility-level occupational health program to meet employee health risks.
• Lead or participate as a team member in the plant’s active ergonomics program.
• Provide a system for the immediate care of employee and visitor injuries and illnesses, including coordinating a medical emergency response team; actively participate in the root‑cause analysis process to understand those events.
• Implement appropriate job placement and health surveillance of employees (e.g., hearing conservation program, audiometry, respiratory surveillance, and management of reproductive and chemical hazard exposures).
• Maintain a documentation system for occupational health record keeping and confidentiality; responsible for all required reporting (OSHA, Workers Compensation, etc.).
• Implement an effective case‑management program including coordination with other health care professionals, human resources, department managers, and insurance carrier representatives or third‑party administrators to facilitate timely return to work and appropriate utilization of benefits.
• Facilitate and coordinate a risk‑based health promotion program to enhance employee and family wellbeing.
• Provide health‑related counseling for employees within the scope of nursing knowledge and practice.
• Partner with other health and safety professionals to recognize health hazards and environmental risk factors in the workplace that may cause negative health impacts among employees; actively participate in determining strategies to reduce those risks.
• Participate in the periodic evaluation of the facility occupational health program and take measures to achieve continuous improvement. Stay within the OH budget.
• Establish a relationship with an external physician to provide support as needed for the occupational health program.
• Responsible for the on‑site drug‑testing program, including follow‑up with outcomes as appropriate.
• Use basic ergonomic principles to perform simple office ergonomic assessments; work with EHS to support risk reduction for employees experiencing potentially work‑related musculoskeletal symptoms.
• Maintain professional continuing education and secure task‑based certification as appropriate to practice (e.g., pulmonary function, hearing testing).
• Facilitate compliance with applicable health and safety regulations.

What you’ll bring

• OSHA 30‑hour (or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire).
• Education (or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire) in fundamentals of industrial ergonomics.

At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $68,000 – $93,500 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
