Job summary

California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in Pasadena seeks a Certified Lifeguard to supervise the safety of recreational swimmers during inter-collegiate practices. Hours include early mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and on short notice. This is an occasional, on-call position.

The role requires current lifeguard, first aid, CPR, and AED certifications, plus the ability to lift equipment, work varied hours, and collaborate with students, staff, faculty and community members.

Qualifications

• Current Lifeguard Training and Community First Aid Certification.
• Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification.
• Current AED Certification.

Responsibilities

• Supervise recreational swimmers and athletes during activities.
• Enforce pool rules and ensure safety policies are followed.
• Educate swimmers on water safety and lifeguard procedures.
• Maintain readiness and respond to emergencies as needed.
• Participate in scheduled in-service training sessions.
• Keep lifeguard certifications up to date and compliant.
• Assist with front office duties when required.

Job Summary

Under general supervision, will work as a Certified Lifeguard to supervise the safety of recreational swimmers and athletes during inter-collegiate practices. Hours include early morning, afternoon, evenings and weekends and will require flexibility to work on short term notice.

*This position is an occasional, on-call position*

Essential Job Duties

• Supervise recreational swimmers, maintaining focus on water and pool equipment
• Educate swimmers and enforce policies
• Maintain swimming fitness (recommended to swim a minimum of three times weekly)
• Perform rescue duties as necessary
• Participate in all scheduled in-service training sessions
• Maintain appropriate certifications
• Duties may include covering the front office
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications

• Must be able to lift and carry a minimum 50 lbs. of athletic and pool equipment in and around the pool area
• Must be available to work various hours with short term notice, including weekends, early mornings, evenings and the ability to work holidays
• Ability to work effectively with students, staff, faculty, alumni and community members

Certifications Required

• Current Lifeguard Training and Community First Aid Certification
• Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification
• Current AED Certification

Hiring Range

$19.00 per hour
