Job Description: Exceptional Children Services Instructional Assistant 1119AR

The Oldham County Board of Education is seeking an instructional assistant to support exceptional children in the classroom. This role involves assisting teachers, implementing educational programs, and providing medically related services to students with special needs.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ability to work with children and collaboratively with others.
  • High school diploma.
  • Passing Paraeducator exam or 48 college credit hours.
  • Experience with children in group settings.
  • Physical ability to lift, push, or pull 40 pounds, and to bend, kneel, and reach above head.

Reports To: Building Principal, Special Education Classroom Teacher, or Director of Exceptional Children Services

Job Goal: To assist in implementing educational programs developed by the Special Education teacher.

Performance Responsibilities:
  • Assist special education teachers in classroom activities and instructional programs.
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal and State IDEA guidelines.
  • Support classroom assessments, IEP data collection, grading, material creation, and instruction.
  • Participate in professional development and meetings.
  • Maintain classroom management and academic standards in the absence of the teacher.
  • Support students with technology use across school settings.
  • Perform medically related services such as feeding, hygiene, medication administration, and toileting for students receiving nursing services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by administrators or supervising teachers.
Terms of Employment:

This position is based on 185 contract days with a 7-hour workday, compensation according to the board-approved salary schedule.
