Job summary

Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant in an Outpatient OBGYN clinic role (no surgery) in Round Rock, TX. The role supports new graduates with onboarding, shadowing, and a physician mentorship program spanning 12–18 months.

Responsibilities include managing new and established visits, follow-ups, pre- and post-operative care, and routine women's health procedures such as Pap smears and colposcopies. Collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited PA program.
  • Less than 1 year of experience in PA practice.
  • Current BLS certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients with comprehensive or problem-focused exams and histories.
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate lab tests and diagnostics.
  • Prescribe or recommend therapies and perform delegated procedures.
  • Develop and implement patient treatment plans with physician oversight.
  • Counsel patients and families on medications, nutrition, and health promotion.
  • Document treatment plans and coordinate referrals as needed.

  • Support Team: Dedicated Medical Assistant, Registered Nurse, Front Desk (PSS), and shared MA/RN triage support.
  • Clinical Responsibilities:
  • New and established patient visits
  • Follow-up and acute access appointments
  • Pre- and post-operative care
  • In-basket management

Job Summary

The PA Surgical Specialty - Non-Operative is a licensed, certified, non-physician healthcare provider. They render direct patient care and have delegated prescriptive authority. They are credentialed, privileged, and billed as an independent provider, recognized by Medicare and Medicaid. The Advanced Practice Provider provides medical care based on the scope of practice set by the supervising physician.

Surgical providers care for adult and pediatric patients. They specialize in General Surgery, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Otolaryngology, Cosmetic, Vascular, Trauma, Transplant, Urology, Plastics, or other specialties.

Essential Functions Of The Role
  • Assesses the physical and mental condition of patients by performing and obtaining comprehensive or problem-focused physical examinations and medical histories.
  • Orders, collects, interprets, and evaluates laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs.
  • Prescribes or recommends medical drug therapies or other treatments. Performs procedures following approved policies, focusing on efficacy, safety, and cost. Recommends interventions to change behavior linked to health risks.
  • Formulates and implements patient treatment plans based on assessments and evidence-based medicine. Collaborates with physicians and team members when needed. Evaluates patient's response to care and its effectiveness.
  • Counsels patients and families about medical processes, illness management, medication, nutrition, and health promotion. Counsels patients about drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with food supplements, over-the-counter medications, and herbal remedies.
  • Maintains appropriate records detailing the patient's treatment plans and outcomes. Initiates timely consultation and referral when the problem exceeds scope of practice or expertise.
  • Provides consultation level services for conditions/problems related to the Provider’s specialty, level of experience and training.
  • Manages patients in a healthcare setting(s) other than primary clinic setting (e.g., inpatient, emergency services).
  • Performs invasive procedures specific to scope of practice and provider’s level of expertise as delegated by supervising Physician.
  • Performs follow-up with patients both pre- and post-operatively. May also round on patients in the hospital or see patients in the Emergency Department.
  • May be required to perform patient care duties beyond regular schedule based on coverage needs of the department.
Key Success Factors
  • Knowledge of information and techniques is needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.
  • Knowledge of practices, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions
