Job summary

Kaiser Permanente seeks a Travel Registered Nurse specialized in Labor and Delivery to coordinate and monitor care in the assigned clinical area. The role requires traveling within a defined zone and geographic area.

Responsibilities include administering medications, initiating IV therapy, ensuring emergency equipment readiness, providing patient education on surgical and postpartum topics, and coordinating with physicians to plan care across shifts and centers.

Qualifications

• 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience in the last 3 years or currently employed in an OB-GYN department.
• RN license required in primary work state with multi-state credentials; compact license acceptable.
• BLS certification required.
• Proficiency with applicable computer software.

Responsibilities

• Travel 100% within the defined zone and/or geographic area.
• Administer oral and injectable meds; manage narcotics and IV therapy per standards.
• Ensure emergency equipment and drug supplies are ready; document incidents.
• Coordinate patient teaching for surgery, wound care, diabetes, hypertension, diet, and related areas.
• Assist with procedures; provide wound care as ordered.
• Coordinate post-sedation recovery and patient safety.
• Triage walk-in patients and manage workflow in the delivery system.
• Serve as a resource to LPNs and Clinic Assistants; advocate for patients.
• Escalate unresolved issues to Clinical Coordinator and coordinate with physicians.
• Perform fetal monitoring and assist with coordination of care via messages, calls, and scheduling.
• Perform other related duties as directed.

Job description

Job Summary:

To coordinate and monitor care of patients in the assigned clinical area. Accountable for traveling within a Zone and/or reasonable geographical area.

Essential Responsibilities:

• 100% Travel.
• Administers all oral and injecting medications in the assigned clinical area. Ensures narcotics and drug supplies are available and secured according to KP standards and regulatory laws. Initiates and monitors IV therapy for therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
• Provides ongoing assurance of functional emergency equipment and adequate emergency drug supplies. Responds to emergency situations throughout the medical facility and documents incidents to the supervisor.
• Coordinates, implements, and evaluates patient teaching plans related to surgery, wound care, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, anticoagulant therapy, therapeutic diet instruction, weight control, and other designated areas.
• Sets up, performs, and/or assists with procedures as appropriate. Provides wound care per provider team orders.
• Coordinates recovery care of patients post-sedation and ensures safety measures for compromised patients.
• Triages walk-in patients as needed or assigned.
• Manages workflow of the delivery system and assists team members in identifying best methods for care.
• Acts as a resource person to LPNs and Clinic Assistants.
• Acts as patient advocate and resolves problems within HCT; escalates unresolved issues to Clinical Coordinator.
• Performs fetal monitoring
• Partners with physicians to assist with coordination of care through message management, phone triage, care advice, scheduling appointments, and patient requests.
• Performs other related duties as directed.

Primary zone is Fair Oaks. Travel to Fair Oaks, Ashburn, Haymarket, Burke, Manassas, Reston centers.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience

• Minimum of 1 year of experience in Labor and Delivery within the last 3 years OR currently employed in OB-GYN department in Kaiser Permanente OR completion of a KPMAS fellowship program.

• This job requires credentials from multiple states. Credentials from the primary work state are required at hire. Additional Credentials from the secondary work state(s) are required post hire.
  

• Registered Nurse License (Maryland) within 6 months of hire AND Registered Nurse License (Virginia) within 6 months of hire

OR

• Compact License: Registered Nurse within 6 months of hire

• Registered Nurse License (District of Columbia) within 6 months of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

• AWHONN Fetal monitoring certification preferred.
• Previous surgical or wound care experience preferred.
• BSN Preferred.
